Job Description

The Role

General Motors’ Commercial API Product team is seeking a Senior Product Manager to own the strategy and execution of some of GM's externally facing vehicle APIs. These APIs enable fleet customers and partners to integrate vehicle telematics data and vehicle controls directly into their own fleet management applications — powering scalable fleet operations, more personalized experiences and a connected and intelligent ecosystem.

In this role, you will lead the product lifecycle for vehicle command APIs, vehicle telematics data retrieval APIs, and external data sharing capabilities that are mission-critical for our customers. You will partner with internal teams to identify, prioritize, develop, and externalize APIs that create value for customers by addressing their needs. You will also help expand GM's Commercial API product suite into new global markets and shape how vehicle data is securely shared with external developers and partners.

Success in this role requires strong technical judgment, the ability to navigate complex cross-functional dependencies, and the ability to translate complex vehicle capabilities and data assets into intuitive customer-facing API products. A bias for action and comfort with ambiguity are essential in this environment.

What You’ll Do

  • Own the product roadmap for vehicle command APIs and data APIs, prioritizing capabilities based on customer needs, technical feasibility, and business impact
  • Define clear user journeys, product requirements and success metrics for new API features and enhancements
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including engineering, design and program management to deliver high-quality, scalable APIs
  • Partner with product marketing, sales and customer support teams to develop go-to-market strategies for new launches
  • Use quantitative and qualitative data to identify improvement opportunities as part of a tight feedback loop
  • Incorporate regional needs, vehicle variants and a variety of customer use cases into scalable, global solutions
  • Drive secure and compliant data sharing and vehicle control frameworks in partnership with legal, cybersecurity and privacy teams

  • Experience with API, platform, or developer-facing products
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to derive actionable insights from complex data using SQL, Python or other analytical tools
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences
  • Proven ability to drive alignment and build consensus with cross-functional stakeholders
  • Can-do attitude to ensure we find a way to move forward despite challenges and ambiguity

What Can Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Skills)

  • Experience with connected vehicles, telematics, or IoT platforms
  • Familiarity with REST APIs, webhooks, or similar integration patterns
  • Experience launching products in global markets
  • Understanding of data privacy, governance, or regulatory frameworks related to vehicle data
