Position Summary

We are seeking a Senior Process Engineer to establish and improve the manufacturing processes required to build vehicles safely, consistently, and efficiently.

This is a key new position within the organization and will serve as the bridge between Design Engineering and Production. The Senior Process Engineer will take engineering designs, drawings, and Bills of Materials (BOMs) and translate them into clear, controlled, production-ready processes that manufacturing personnel can reliably follow.

The successful candidate will play a critical role in supporting the company's current pilot bus program, documenting lessons learned and establishing standardized processes that can be carried forward into future production and mass-production programs. It will also help transit production from skill-based personnel to document-based personnel.

Key Responsibilities

This list of essential duties is not all-inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties, as management may deem necessary from time to time. The team member must be able to perform each essential job duty identified below satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the essential duties of this position unless doing so would create an undue hardship.

Manufacturing Process Development
  • Develop and document assembly and manufacturing processes for transit buses/future models.
  • Translate engineering drawings, BOMs, and specifications into practical production processes.
  • Define assembly sequences, required tools, materials, fasteners, and quality checkpoints.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, quality, and repeatability.

Work Instructions & Documentation
  • Create clear, easy-to-follow work instructions for production personnel.
  • Include part numbers, quantities, tools, torque requirements, fasteners, installation procedures, and inspection points.
  • Maintain accurate and revision-controlled manufacturing documentation.
  • Develop visual instructions using photographs, drawings, or illustrations when appropriate.

BOM & Part Identification
  • Review engineering BOMs and drawings for completeness and manufacturability.
  • Identify missing parts, hardware, information, or discrepancies before production.
  • Establish clear part identification and labeling practices.
  • Help develop and maintain manufacturing BOMs and production documentation.

Pilot Build Support
  • Work directly with Production during pilot vehicle builds.
  • Document assembly issues, missing information, design problems, and production difficulties.
  • Maintain a structured pilot-build issue and lessons-learned log.
  • Work with Design Engineering and Production to resolve issues.
  • Update processes, BOMs, and work instructions based on lessons learned.

Continuous Improvement
  • Investigate production problems and identify root causes.
  • Reduce assembly errors, rework, and production delays.
  • Establish repeatable processes that can be scaled to future production.
  • Capture lessons learned from pilot builds and incorporate them into future manufacturing standards.

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical, Industrial Engineering, or related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in automotive, transit bus, commercial vehicle, heavy equipment, or other complex assembly manufacturing.

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and BOMs.
  • Experience creating work instructions and manufacturing documentation.
  • Strong mechanical and manufacturing knowledge.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Comfortable working directly with production personnel on the manufacturing floor.
