What Your Job Will Be LikeWe are seeking a Prototyping Technologist (Mechanical Technologist) to join our team.

As part of our dedicated manufacturing team, you will partner with engineers, CNC programmers, and designers to advise on the development and modification of tools, parts, assemblies, and components.
On any given day, you may be called on to:
- Develop, build, modify, repair, maintain, align, evaluate, operate, and experiments with a wide variety of mechanical apparatus and equipment.
- Perform a variety of duties in the manufacture and machining of tools, dies, jigs, fixtures, mechanical engineering fabrications, prototypes, piece parts, production piece parts assemblies, and components.
- Analyze data and recommend modifications to components or test procedures to meet desired specifications, requirements, and design for manufacturability tenets.
- Create CNC and or CAM programs.
- Compute dimensions and determine machining operations, materials, and tooling requirements.
- Design and build machine tool fixtures by analyzing drawings, sketches, models, specifications, diagrams, and engineering or shop specifications
- Perform skilled machining and fabrication tasks using a variety of machines and tools to machine jigs, fixtures, one-of-a-kind prototypes, and production piece parts.
- Recommend revisions in design or substitutions in material based on machinability, manufacturability, or fabrication problems encountered.
Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite 100% of the time at the Livermore, CA facility.
Salary Range$88,900 - $171,900
*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.
Qualifications We Require- High school diploma plus 8 or more years of directly related experience.
- Ability to acquire and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance.
Qualifications We Desire- Associate in Science in one of these areas or similar- CNC Research and Development Machinist, Advanced Manufacturing and Prototyping Technician, CNC Machinist, Machine tool technology.
- Apprenticeship program graduate.
- Relevant / Demonstrated 5-axis CNC machine tool or 6-way indexing CMM operation experience.
- CAD/CAM experience.
- Experience with CREO NC.
- Experience with wire EDM capabilities.
- Total project ownership.
- Demonstrated experience partnering with R&D engineering teams.
- Ability to read and understand written or verbal instructions, drawings, layouts, and other related specifications.
- Experience and demonstrated skill in conducting research, investigating alternative solutions, and recommending solutions on problems affecting systems and equipment.
- Ability to work independently and as well as part of a team.
About Our TeamThis department is in place for the research and development of prototype machined hardware components made on milling machines, lathes, EDM machines, grinders, buffers, saws, routers, and bead blaster. Hardware is typically made from a variety of inert metals, polymers, and composites materials. In rare cases hazardous materials will be handled with the guidance from industrial hygiene and waste management with controls in place.
