What Your Job Will Be Like

We are seeking a Facilities Technologist to perform work planning and control activities in support of fire protection systems. In this role you will apply facilities and project related knowledge and experience to ensure processes and priorities are followed, avoid overlapping work activities, address customer/facility availability conflicts, and achieve better resource utilization. You will support the integration of cross-project elements including maintenance team leads, maintenance craftspeople, Facility Project Managers, engineering, responsible mission partners, and customers.

On any given day, you may be called on to:
  • Decide level of planning or field scoping needed based on identified area, asset, and/or task-related hazards.
  • Perform technical work to support engineering and maintenance activities for construction, maintenance, inspection, and facilities and infrastructure system operations.
  • Be accountable for the Maintenance Planning Process and Corrective Maintenance Job Plans for an assigned team.
  • Build and publish scheduling models for each assigned maintenance team based on work type, priority historical data, and team role.
  • Lead monthly backlog reviews with Maintenance Team Leaders.
  • Work closely with key partners to ensure accurate and thorough work packages that are ready for scheduling and execution.
  • Review work orders and detail the orders (work type, priority, target start, Job Site Hazard Evaluation/Access codes, job plan, estimated time, labor, materials, etc.) in a timely manner.
  • Initiate and/or acquire permits and coordinate planned outages and impairments.
  • Perform tasks in asset identification management process, participate in Operations & Maintenance (O&M) strategy, Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM), develop Maximo PMs, job plans, standards/estimates, and preventive maintenance tasks.
  • Identify area/site and equipment related ES&H hazards and advise Safety Engineer.

Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite 100% of the time.

Salary Range

$63,800 - $123,400

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require

  • High School Diploma plus three (3) years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with the following:
    • Facilities Fire Protection systems, to include practical experience dealing with commercial fire alarms, sprinkler systems, suppression tools, and back-flow preventives.
    • Planning and scheduling work for maintenance or construction-like activities
    • Computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) software system for asset management and work order systems (Maximo for example).
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE L-level security clearance.


Qualifications We Desire

  • Understanding of work hazards, safety practices, operating configurations, and lockout/tagout policies and procedures.
  • Experience and understanding of SNL/NM processes and procedures for fire protection, fire alarm, fire impairments and permits.
  • Completion of a 4-year State approved apprenticeship program, or equivalent.
  • Experience with fire protection piping, life safety systems.
  • Knowledge of National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) codes, specifically 13, 14, 20, and 7.2.
  • Ability to read and understand drawings, schematics, and operations manuals.
  • Experience using Maximo software system with proficiency in MS Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc).
  • Demonstrated success working in a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and customer service skills.
  • Deep understanding of Facilities processes and procedures.
  • Active DOE/DOD Security Clearance.


About Our Team

The Maintenance Planning Team is responsible for planning and scheduling of all work for the Centralized Maintenance teams in the Infrastructure Operations Center, 4700. This includes creating a complete work package for each job to include a detailed scope of work, materials needed, hazards associated with the work and controls needed to mitigate the hazards. In addition, this group collects, trends, and analyzes predictive maintenance data to determine equipment condition and implementation of ¿condition-based¿ maintenance work. They develop and analyze key maintenance performance indicators including quarterly dashboard, monthly department measures, and quarterly RTBF metrics.
