The Sr. Principal Electrical Engineer serves as a senior technical leader responsible for researching, developing, designing, and testing complex electrical equipment, systems, and components for commercial and industrial applications. This role provides technical direction for engineering teams and/or functions as a subject-matter expert in advanced engineering concepts, innovative design approaches, and industry standards. The position requires independent judgment, creative problem-solving, and the ability to develop solutions for highly complex engineering challenges.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead large capital projects as the primary Electrical Engineering authority, including development and management of man-hour budgets, manpower planning, and project schedules.
• Develop a comprehensive understanding of project scope, specifications, and execution procedures.
• Oversee engineering and design activities to ensure adherence to client expectations, applicable codes, and industry standards.
• Establish project-specific drawing requirements, procedures, and quality controls while ensuring alignment across all engineering disciplines.
• Complete electrical surveys and lead development of Design Basis documentation.
• Supervise assigned electrical engineers and designers, ensuring effective utilization of skills and resources.
• Assign work and provide guidance to team members to optimize project outcomes.
• Assist Section and Department Managers with performance evaluations for electrical engineering personnel.
• Forecast team manpower requirements to support accurate planning and schedule adherence.
• Maintain and continuously expand personal technical and leadership capabilities.
Required
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited college or university.
• 12+ years of experience in the design of chemical, petrochemical, or similar industrial facilities.
• Demonstrated experience as a Lead Engineer on major projects.
• Strong background in electrical engineering fundamentals across HV, MV, and LV power systems.
• Proficiency with SKM and/or ETAP power system software.
• Working knowledge of NEC and other relevant electrical codes and standards.
• Advanced proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint).
• Professional Engineer (P.E.) license or ability to obtain one.
