What You Will Do

Johnson Controls is seeking a Senior Principal Electronics Engineer to join our R&D facility in Westford, MA. In this role, you will be responsible for designing analog and digital electronic hardware for new fire alarm products while also supporting existing product lines.

Projects may include embedded system design, small-signal and instrumentation circuitry, switch-mode power supplies, front-panel user interfaces, audio amplifiers, peer-to-peer networking, linear power supplies, sensors and detectors, and fiber-optic technologies. You will also research and evaluate emerging technologies for potential use in future product development.

This position is based in Westford, MA and requires onsite presence three days per week.

How You Will Do It
  • Design and analyze analog and digital electronics, including embedded systems.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to conceive, develop, and release new products into production.
  • Assume overall technical project leadership for hardware product development, ensuring compliance with product specifications, schedules, cost targets, and performance requirements.
  • Work in a collaborative team environment to develop innovative solutions that meet product needs.
  • Lead cross-functional teams of engineers, primarily electrical and mechanical, with responsibility for project cost, schedule, and design execution.
  • Operate effectively at both the component and system levels, including hardware design, software integration, packaging, and system architecture.
  • Identify opportunities to improve internal processes and engineering procedures.
  • Partner closely with Product Management to define and refine product requirements.
  • Design products to meet applicable regulatory and agency certifications, including UL, ULC, CE, and FCC standards.


What You Will Need
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • 12+ years of experience in electronics design involving analog, power, audio, or embedded systems.
  • Strong knowledge of discrete electronic components and component-level circuit design.
  • Experience with electronic CAD tools, including schematic capture and circuit simulation.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in a global, cross-functional team environment.
  • Experience transitioning products from development into manufacturing.


Experience & Skills
  • 12+ years of relevant engineering experience.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership experience, including mentoring or leading engineering teams.
  • Strong engineering and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Exceptional organizational and project management skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Microsoft Excel.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with power supply design, microprocessors, and embedded systems.
  • Experience with small-signal analog circuit design.


SALARY RANGE: $117,700 - $196,500 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
