A Day in the Life of a Senior Policy Analyst - International Policy

The Senior Policy Analyst - International Policy is responsible for delivering outcomes and implementation support for key corporate initiatives, providing front line leadership, expertise, and professional acumen in managing activities and relationships that are international-facing. The role develops and manages important stakeholder relationships and provides strategic advice to address stakeholder objectives and needs. The Senior Policy Analyst - International Policy interacts and consults regularly with internal parties and external stakeholders to drive the development and implementation of strategic initiatives.

Education
  • Bachelor's degree in political science, sociology, public administration or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Experience and skills
  • 5-10 years of experience related to standardization, strategic policy and/or stakeholder relations
  • Experience in translating public policy priorities into actionable policy analysis and development
  • In-depth knowledge in the areas of stakeholder engagement and relationship-building.
  • Strong knowledge and practical experience in policy analysis, policy development, and providing advice to a variety of stakeholders.
  • Experience addressing complex policy issues in an international context, applying a Canadian perspective to policy analysis, development, and multilateral engagement.
  • Experience supporting, overseeing and implementing bilateral engagements in a policy setting
  • Experience in: project management, research, strategic-thinking, report writing


You May Also Have
  • Master's degree in political science, sociology, public administration or other relevant area of knowledge
  • Experience in international policy and international affairs with a focus on Indo-Pacific relationships
  • Experience with and knowledge of trade policy and international market access

Key Activities
  • Lead efforts to engage targeted stakeholders, including industry and government representatives, with particular focus on sustaining relationships, enabling, and promoting their use of, and involvement in standardization:
  • Lead strategic initiatives that require cross-functional engagement with internal parties, and with external stakeholders, as appropriate.
  • Research and analyze a variety of social, economic, regulatory, standardization or trade-related topics to enhance the capacity of SCC to provide value-added analysis, advice, and services to private and public sector stakeholders.
  • Prepare and implements project plans to deliver programs and services, including the review and / or development of business cases; business and prescribed system requirements; and cross-functional integration activities.
  • Provide expert advice in the negotiation of agreements with stakeholders to define the parameters and deliverables of action with private and public sector stakeholders.
  • Provide policy support, as required, to SCC statutory and advisory committees.
  • Collaborate across teams through direction-setting and planning of work items and tasks associated with assigned initiatives. This includes providing coaching and guidance to less experienced team members and colleagues and taking accountability for the accuracy and relevance of deliverables to stakeholders.

Typically to be eligible for a "Reliability" clearance, you must have five years of verifiable background information and to be eligible for a "Secret" clearance, you must have 10 years of verifiable background information.
