Full Job Description
The Senior Platform Engineer keeps the entire NBA platform healthy, reliable, and maintainable for the long term. You develop a working understanding of every layer of the technology stack - the Java/Drools rules engine, the React/Node/Postgres action library, the Node.js and Temporal orchestration and state machine, the Kafka event backbone, and the Databricks decisioning pipelines - and you use that breadth to diagnose issues, improve reliability and performance, and implement focused features and enhancements wherever they are needed. This is a hands-on role for an engineer who enjoys understanding how systems fit together and takes pride in keeping a complex platform running smoothly.

Key Responsibilities

Cross-Stack Maintenance - Maintain and support services across the full platform; build and keep current a working knowledge of each component and how they integrate.

Reliability Engineering - Monitor platform health, investigate production issues, and resolve bottlenecks, failures, and scaling constraints - often before users notice them.

Feature Implementation - Design and ship focused features, enhancements, and technical improvements across platform components, favoring clarity and maintainability.

Observability - Extend logging, metrics, tracing, and alerting so the team has clear visibility into what the system is doing in production.

Performance and scale - Profile and tune components under load; help the platform scale reliably as member volume and data throughput grow.

Quality - Write tests, participate in code reviews, and uphold engineering standards so changes ship production-ready.

Incident response - Participate in the on-call rotation, lead root-cause analysis, and turn incidents into durable fixes and preventative improvements.

Collaboration - Work with the delivery pods and Decision Intelligence to understand new components and smoothly take on their long-term ownership.

Required Qualifications

5+ years of software engineering experience building and operating production systems.

Comfortable working across a polyglot codebase; able to read, debug, and extend code in more than one of Java, Node.js/TypeScript, Python, and SQL.

Solid understanding of distributed systems: APIs, event-driven patterns, asynchronous processing, and failure handling.

Hands-on experience with observability practices - structured logging, metrics, tracing, and alerting.

Experience operating services on cloud infrastructure (Azure or equivalent) with containers/Kubernetes and CI/CD.

A maintenance-and-reliability mindset: you treat operational health and clean, well-documented code as first-class work.

Clear communicator who can explain a system or an incident to engineers and non-engineers alike.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with Kafka producer/consumer patterns and stream processing.

Familiarity with Temporal or comparable workflow-orchestration platforms.

Exposure to rules engines (Drools or equivalent).

Experience with React/Node/Postgres application stacks.

Exposure to Databricks, Delta Lake, or Spark-based data pipelines.

Background in healthcare, insurance, or another regulated industry with PHI handling requirements.
