Full Job Description
Responsibilities and requisite experience include:
  • Preparation of master plans and master plan reexamination reports, zoning ordinances and development regulations, review of development applications, planning reports and analyses, redevelopment studies and plans, zoning ordinances, and affordable housing plans and studies.
  • Review and prepare local municipal ordinances.
  • Perform as Project Manager for planning projects in charge of staff, budget, and schedule.
  • Prepare evaluation criteria of Municipal Planning review letters/documents.
  • Undertake zoning, land use and urban design evaluations to assist Principal/Director.
  • Municipal appointments as planning board, zoning board, or municipal planner.
  • Review development applications and prepare planning reports for planning and zoning boards
  • Plan and facilitate public participation events to formulate and develop land use or community plans.
  • Lead the preparation of design guidelines for open space, building form, project review and site planning.
  • Conduct field investigations / site visits to compile and analyze data on factors affecting land use.
  • Marketing proposal writing, with assistance from Pennoni Corporate Communications.
  • Attend night meetings or public engagement events if required for project.

Required Attributes
  • Required education: Degree in Planning, Architecture, or Landscape Architecture.
  • Minimum years of work experience: 10.
  • American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) Certification.
  • NJ Licensed Professional Planner (PP)
  • Computer Skills: MS Word and Excel, Adobe Suite.
  • Comprehensive planning experience, with understanding of urban design and community planning principles.
  • Familiarity with or experience in GIS.
  • Ability to work in a team environment with minimal supervision.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage tasks effectively.
  • Excellent organizational skills.

Preferred Attributes
  • Experience in community visioning, public outreach, and charrettes
  • Layout and graphic design for public engagement exhibits, massing plans, and conceptual urban design
  • Understanding and experience in innovative planning, design, and zoning techniques, including form-based codes a plus
  • Experience in resiliency and sustainable planning techniques a plus


TARGET SALARY RANGE: $100k - $120k (per year)
