Job Description:

The Senior Planner acts as an advisor on complex projects and applies advanced experience to independently make recommendations and decisions regarding project design work. This role conceptualizes and creates unique solutions and ensures delivery of elevated projects that successfully shape the future of communities and help them thrive.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Leading long-range planning projects for various clients including municipalities, counties, MPOs, and other client types.
  • Project types may include comprehensive plans, downtown plans, transportation plans, corridor plans, safety action plans, and more.
  • Lead and contribute to planning projects focused on community development and transportation.
  • Apply advanced planning principles to develop policies, strategies, and plans that help communities grow and thrive.
  • Manage project scopes, schedules, and deliverables, coordinating across internal teams and disciplines.
  • Design and facilitate stakeholder engagement strategies, including public meetings and outreach for high-profile efforts.
  • Partner with agencies, developers, and community organizations to align planning solutions with local goals and needs.
  • Support business development through proposal writing, pursuit strategy, and client relationship building.
  • Mentor junior team members and help foster a collaborative, high-performing team culture.
  • Maintain project data and documentation in the firm's project management system.

What You Bring:
  • Bachelor's degree in planning, policy, political science or a related field of study, Master's degree preferred.
  • A minimum of eight years of experience in planning with increasing responsibility.
  • Experience with both transportation and community planning preferred.
  • Certified planner (AICP) preferred.
  • Experience with Adobe InDesign and Illustrator preferred.
  • Experience with GIS preferred.
  • Previous project management experience preferred.
  • Previous consulting experience preferred.
  • Has solid interpersonal and decision-making skills and the ability to generate innovative and effective solutions to complex problems.
  • Has in-depth knowledge of and the ability to diligently research applicable requirements and regulations.
  • Has a valid driver's license and a good driving history.
