Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Senior Planner to join our construction and engineering team in Hamilton, Canada. In this senior-level role, you will be responsible for developing, managing, and optimizing comprehensive project schedules while coordinating with engineering, construction, and stakeholder teams. You will bring strategic planning expertise, analytical rigor, and decisive leadership to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
  • Develop and maintain detailed project schedules using advanced planning methodologies and critical path analysis.
  • Coordinate with engineering, construction, and procurement teams to ensure schedule alignment and resource optimization.
  • Analyze project constraints, identify risks, and implement mitigation strategies to maintain schedule integrity.
  • Manage resource allocation, labor planning, and equipment scheduling across multiple concurrent projects.
  • Prepare and present schedule reports, forecasts, and performance metrics to senior management and stakeholders and earn value management.
  • Monitor schedule performance, track progress against baselines, and implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Collaborate with project managers and engineers to integrate construction sequencing with engineering deliverables.
  • Optimize project controls, earn value and schedule integration.
  • Manage budget forecasting and cost control related to schedule changes and resource planning.
  • Mentor junior planning staff and establish best practices for scheduling and planning processes.
  • Ensure compliance with project specifications, contractual obligations, and regulatory requirements.


Qualifications

  • Minimum 15 years of professional experience in construction planning, scheduling, or project management.
  • Experience in joint venture and major projects.
  • Demonstrated expertise in developing and managing complex project schedules.
  • Strong knowledge of construction methodologies, sequencing, and engineering coordination.
  • Proficiency with project management software (Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, or equivalent).
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment and mentor others.
  • Proficiency with construction management systems and scheduling software.
  • Advanced Excel skills for data analysis and reporting.
  • Experience with risk and change management and schedule optimization techniques.
  • Knowledge of construction cost estimation and budget management.
  • Familiarity with engineering drawings and technical specifications.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) or Planning and Scheduling Professional (PSP) certification, is an asset.
