The Position
OPEN EXAMINATION - ONE YEAR PROBATIONARY PERIOD

Job Description: In addition to the responsibilities of the Planner, this mid-management position performs complex professional and technical planning duties. The Senior Planner has broad expertise in professional planning issues and varying job assignments.

This position reports to the Deputy Director of Community Development or above.

Minimum Requirements
MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

An equivalent combination of experience and education sufficient to perform the essential job functions and provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.
Education:

Bachelor's Degree in City Planning, Urban Planning, Urban Design, Architecture, Historic Preservation, Sustainability/Environmental Studies, Landscape Architecture, Geography, Economics, Public Administration or a closely related field is required.
Experience:

Six years of increasingly responsible professional experience in a public planning agency or a private firm with direct experience on public planning, environmental, historic, transportation or urban design/architectural issues are required.

A Master's Degree in City or Urban Planning, Architecture, Historic Preservation, Public Administration or a closely related field may be substituted for one year of experience.
Professional experience in Long Range Planning is highly desirable.
Transportation:

California Class C Driver's License is required.

Working Conditions

Work is primarily performed indoors in an office setting and in the field.
