Job Description:Johnson & Johnson Vision Care is recruiting for a Senior Package Engineer located in Jacksonville, FL.
Position SummaryThe Senior Package Engineer supports all packaging related activities for the design, development, validation, and maintenance of medical device packaging systems for Research & Development, new product, or market released Packaging Systems projects. This position may also be required to perform tasks to support the finished good product labeling systems and other project groups as necessary.
Key Responsibilities:Incumbent will develop and validate packaging systems, both sterile and non-sterile, for new products in addition to supporting packaging systems and processes for established product lines across various manufacturing sites and platforms.
- Plans, develops, coordinates, and directs a number of projects of major scope and importance.
- Qualify packaging components and packaging systems, in a timely manner, for Research & Development / Packaging Systems projects.
- Utilize technical competency, relevant work experience, comprehensive & diverse package engineering knowledge to generate valid creative solutions.
- Ability to resolve technical package design, development and/or process related issues. Identify associated timing, estimated cost, resources and understand the interrelationships of key activities.
- Identify and implement packaging/labeling improvement projects
- Design, develop, validate, and provide technical oversight for packaging components, materials, specifications, and packaging processes. Lead activities related to the manufacture, installation, qualification, and operation of packaging systems that ensure the protection, handling, distribution, and presentation of products while meeting quality, regulatory, and business requirements.
- Determine packaging specifications according to the nature of the product, cost limitations, legal requirements, and the type of protection required, considering need for resistance to such external variables as moisture, chemicals, temperature variations, light, heat, rough handling, and tampering.
- Design package exteriors considering such factors as product identification, sales appeal, aesthetic quality, printing, and production techniques.
- Contribute to the Company with inventions, new designs, processes, or techniques which are significant to the solution of important problems.
QualificationsEducation: Minimum Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent University degree required; focused degree in Engineering, Scientific, or related field preferred. Advanced degree preferred.
Experience and Skills:Required:- Minimum two (2) years of relevant professional work experience
- Experience in Package Engineering
- Demonstrated ISO 11607-1:2019 and ISO 11607-2:2019 knowledge and experience
- Knowledge and experience with Human Factors and Usability testing for labeling content and aseptic transfer techniques.
- Experience with FDA and/or notified body audits in the functional space of package engineering.
- Experience as a technical lead on projects is considered a plus for this position
- Good communication and social skills to work effectively with all levels of employees, suppliers, and industry personnel.
- Knowledge of Regulations and Standards for labeling and packaging
- Shown ability to consistently generate and implement innovative and unique solutions to complex technical problems.
Preferred:- Medical Device Industry experience
- Demonstrated knowledge of appropriate test methods for sterile barrier packaging systems.
- Customer focus (internal & external) and a strong eye for business skills
- The ability to function independently on specific assignment objectives requiring investigation of a limited number of variables and to function effectively with limited supervision
- Knowledge of packaging graphics, process development validation, testing, equipment, and supplier processes
- Knowledge and experience with equipment crating for transport.
- The ability to apply Six Sigma and/or lean tools is an asset.
- Working knowledge of statistical analysis tools such as Minitab
Other:- May require up to 25% domestic and/or international travel to other sites and locations
