Position Summary: The Office of Teacher Recruitment and Quality (TRQ) is responsible for the recruitment of diverse and talented teachers to meet the staffing needs of New York Public Schools (NYCPS) and programs, as well as being responsible for initiatives to promote the equitable and quality distribution of teachers across all schools. Research has repeatedly shown that teacher quality is the single most important variable in raising student learning. The Office of Teacher Recruitment and Quality accomplishes its work through a strategic, data driven approach that focuses on the following efforts:

  • Serve as the primary marketing agent and source of information to individuals seeking to become NYCPS teachers, to recruit a large, high quality, equitable and diverse pool of candidates.
  • Design and manage recruitment and preparation programs, and pipelines for individuals to become NYCPS teachers, especially to address subject and geographic shortage areas.
  • Select a diverse and high quality pool of candidates to become teachers through rigorous, research driven, screening processes.
  • Design and implement high quality field experiences for teacher candidates in both alternative certification and traditional pathways.
  • Provide inclusive best practices and support to schools to help them make optimal, local hiring decisions.
  • Lead pipeline and pathways to teacher certification for diverse candidates within our communities to promote an equitable distribution of teachers across all schools.
  • Support new teachers with consistent onboarding experiences across the system when they are hired and throughout their first year.


TRQ seeks a Senior Operations Coordinator to oversee the day to day operations of the Strategic Partnerships Team. The position will coordinate operational systems that support teacher recruitment and retention initiatives, including event logistics, webinar, administration, consultant onboarding, per session management, data reporting, operational communications, and cross functional project coordination.

This position plays a critical role in ensuring the efficient execution of strategic partnership initiatives, including the Peer Recruiter and Early Commitment programs in support of the NYS Class Size law. The Senior Operations Coordinator will identify opportunities for process improvement, maintain operational systems, analyze program data, and provide regular reporting that informs decision making and strengthens program effectiveness.Performs related work.

Reports to: Senior Program Manager, Design and Implementation

Direct Reports : Seasonal Staff

Key Relationships: Per session Staff, NYCPS principals, Team Members Across TRQ, and Staff within the Division of Human Resources.

Responsibilities
Events

  • Coordinate logistics for virtual and in-person events supporting recruitment and partnership initiatives.
  • Manage virtual event platforms, registration, invitations, reminders, and attendee communications.
  • Coordinate volunteer staffing and day of event logistics.
  • Maintain the Strategic Partnerships event calendar and support event reporting.
Consultants

  • Coordinate the recruitment, onboarding, and offboarding of seasonal consultants and temporary staff.
  • Respond to consultant inquiries and provide ongoing operational support.
  • Process consultant timesheets and maintain accurate staffing records.
Webinars

  • Manage webinar schedules and calendars.
  • Create registration forms and participant communications.
  • Coordinate reminders and follow up communications.
  • Monitor attendance and maintain webinar participation records.

Per Session Management

  • Coordinate day to day operations related to per session employees across Strategic Partnership programs.
  • Review, approve, and submit per session timesheets for processing.
  • Maintain comprehensive tracking systems for employee assignments, hours, and payments.
  • Collaborate with payroll and internal teams to ensure timely submission and resolution of payroll issues.

Operations, Systems, and Data

  • Collect, analyze, and report program data to monitor implementation and measure program effectiveness.
  • Identify operational trends and recommend process improvements based on data analysis. Recommend and implement process improvements that increase efficiency and consistency.
  • Coordinate operational workflows across Strategic Partnership initiatives.
  • Develop, document, and improve operational procedures and standard operating practices.

Communications and Customer Service

  • Draft and distribute high quality communications to principals, district staff, teacher leaders, consultants, and other stakeholders.
  • Manage shared inboxes and respond to inquiries accurately and professionally.
  • Develop communication templates, guidance documents, and operational resources.
  • Ensure timely, responsive customer service while maintaining strong stakeholder relationships.


Qualification Requirements:

Minimum
  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
  • High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
  • Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.

  • Preferred
    • Superior written and verbal communication skills.
    • Familiarity with New York State teacher certification requirements.
    • Understanding of teacher recruitment, retention, and workforce policy, preferably within K-12 education.
    • Experience managing relationships with diverse stakeholders across large organizations.
    • Demonstrated success supporting operational, human resources, recruitment, training, or talent development initiatives.
    • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team environment.
    • Familiarity with the structure and operations of the NYCPS system.
    • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem solving skills.
    • Ability to analyze and communicate data effectively to a variety of audiences.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships, influence stakeholders, and manage multiple priorities.
    • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 applications.
    • Experience in education policy, instructional programs, or high need teacher certification areas is preferred.


    Salary : $82,000 - $90,200

    (Internal candidates who are selected for this position and who currently hold comparable or less senior positions within the DOE will not earn less than their current salary.)
