Full Job Description
General Dynamics Mission Systems (GDMS) is seeking a Senior Onsite Shipyard Representative to lead and oversee all installation and test efforts for the Fire Control System on the COLUMBIA Class ballistic missile submarine program. This role will serve as the primary point of contact (POC) for the GDMS shipyard team, acting as the lead in delegating work, managing day-to-day operations, and ensuring the successful execution of shipyard activities, including equipment installation, system integration, and testing. As the Senior Onsite Representative, you will work collaboratively with shipyard personnel, design engineers, and Navy representatives to ensure all systems meet rigorous performance, safety, and quality standards. This vital role represents GDMS as the onsite leader for both internal teams and external stakeholders, driving program success and ensuring the team delivers on one of the nation's most important defense programs. Key Responsibilities: Serve as the Primary Point of Contact (POC) for GDMS shipyard operations, facilitating communication with shipyard personnel, Navy representatives, and other external stakeholders. Lead all installation and test efforts, ensuring the successful completion of critical Fire Control System tasks for the COLUMBIA Class submarines. Delegate and oversee work assignments for the GDMS shipyard team, ensuring alignment with program priorities and timelines. Coordinate and direct resources to support the installation, integration, and testing of mechanical, electrical, and fiber optic components in the Fire Control System. Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to Fire Control Systems by collaborating with internal GDMS teams, shipyard teams, and external partners. Conduct and review equipment field modifications, inspections, and quality assurance checks to ensure compliance with design specifications and procedural standards. Maintain detailed documentation of all shipyard activities, including system configurations, test results, and issue resolution reports, ensuring accountability and traceability. Support peer reviews and contribute to the development and refinement of engineering documentation to improve shipyard operations. Monitor progress against key milestones and provide regular status updates to GDMS management and program leadership. Serve as the on-site Fire Control Subject Matter Expert (SME), ensuring the team is prepared to address and resolve complex Fire Control-related challenges as they arise. Preferred Qualifications: We are looking for candidates with a strong background in shipyard operations, installation, and testing, as well as: Leadership Experience: Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and delegate assignments effectively to meet project goals in high-pressure environments. Shipyard Expertise: Extensive experience with system installation, integration, and testing in a shipyard setting; submarine or naval vessel experience is highly preferred. Technical Proficiency: Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and documentation. Knowledge of Navy Standards: Familiarity with SPALTs, ODs (Ordnance Documents), and other Navy specifications and processes. Problem Solving and Troubleshooting: Strong diagnostic and resolution skills for technical and integration issues involving complex systems. Communication Skills: Proven ability to communicate effectively with cross-functional teams, external stakeholders, and high-level leadership. This estimate represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors (geographic location, etc.). Actual pay may vary. Additional Qualifications/Responsibilities Basic Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a related Science, Engineering or Mathematics field, plus a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience. CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: Department of Defense Secret security clearance is required at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.
