JOB PURPOSE

The Senior Nurse Consultant supports Assisted Living, Memory Care, and Senior Living communities in maintaining regulatory compliance, survey readiness, and high-quality resident care. This role conducts mock surveys, evaluates clinical and operational practices, identifies areas of risk, and partners with community leadership to drive continuous quality improvement and successful regulatory outcomes.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct mock surveys and regulatory readiness assessments in Assisted Living, Memory Care, and Senior Living communities.
  • Evaluate compliance with state regulations, licensure requirements, company policies, and industry standards.
  • Identify clinical, operational, and regulatory risks and provide recommendations for improvement.
  • Review resident records, assessments, service plans, medication documentation, and incident reports for compliance and accuracy.
  • Educate and coach community leaders and care teams on regulatory requirements, documentation standards, and survey readiness.
  • Support the development and implementation of corrective action plans and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Follow up on survey findings, audits, and quality concerns to ensure sustained compliance.
  • Provide guidance and mentoring during community walkthroughs, compliance reviews, and operational assessments.
  • Participate in leadership meetings, compliance reviews, and training programs.
  • Analyze quality metrics and trends to identify opportunities for performance improvement.
  • Serve as a resource for infection prevention, medication management, dementia care, resident safety, and risk management.
  • Maintain current knowledge of Assisted Living and Senior Living regulations and best practices.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of Assisted Living, Memory Care, and Senior Living regulations and licensure requirements.
  • Understanding of resident assessments, care planning, medication management, infection prevention, dementia care, resident rights, and quality assurance processes.
  • Experience with electronic health records and clinical documentation practices.
  • Strong auditing, analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication, presentation, coaching, and facilitation abilities.
  • Ability to build collaborative relationships and influence leaders across multiple communities.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and travel as needed.
  • Commitment to fostering a supportive, solutions-focused approach to compliance and quality improvement.
  • Ability to adapt to changing regulations, priorities, and operational needs.


Qualifications:

MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED:

Graduate of an accredited educational institution with a degree in Nursing

Continuing education in regulatory compliance, infection control, or Quality Assurance Performance Improvement is a plus.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Minimum of 3-5 years of clinical experience in a long-term care or skilled nursing facility

At least 2 years of leadership experience (Director of Health Services, Assistant Director of Nursing, Quality Nurse, or Clinical Consultant).

Prior experience conducting mock surveys or participation in state/federal survey processes (preferred)

Familiarity with Plans of Correction, Quality Assurance Performance Improvement programs and compliance audit

MINIMUM LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED BY LAW:
• Must possess an active Registered Professional Nursing License (multi-state)
• Infection Preventionist certification preferred, but not required
• CPR Certification

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: (Preferred qualifications)
• Ability to analyze data, identify trends and implement improvement strategie
• Strong understanding of care coordination, patient experience and quality improvement principle
• Ability to lead and manage teams across multiple location
• Communication, leadership, and interpersonal skill
