Full Job Description
As a Senior Mining Engineer, you'll play a key role in the growth of our mining backfill engineering services business and team. You'll focus on all aspects of underground operations life cycle including design, management, tailings management and backfill design. We'll look to you to bring experience and understanding of current industry trends and guidelines on design, estimation, planning, as well as interest in working collaboratively to find solutions to complex and interesting problems. Success in this role will require exceptional written and verbal communication skills, the ability to work independently and effectively with co-workers, clients, and contractors, and a "safety-first" attitude.

Responsibilities:
• Provide technical leadership for engineering studies within a multi-disciplinary team, leveraging experience and competencies in a range of mining operations and mining methods, mine design (short- and long-term planning, rock mechanics, ventilation, etc.), and mining operational, technical and managerial roles
• Contribute, through innovative and entrepreneurial thinking and strategic aptitude, in developing backfill concepts that will be presented to planners up to senior executive/corporate level client(s)
• Provide technical direction to project engineers and mentoring to junior engineering staff
• Conduct economic valuation of mine design, logistics, trade-off studies, cash flows, etc
• Contribute, deliver, and manage projects and technical work ranging from conceptual, to feasibility and detailed engineering to meet scope, schedule and budget
• Provide technical input into, but not limited to: project design criteria, cost estimate: capital expenditures (CapEx) and operating expenditures (OpEx) preparation, risk assessments and HAZOP studies, SWOT (Strength, Weakness, Opportunity and Threats) Analysis
• Demonstrate proficiency in writing and review of proposals and project reports
• Demonstrate competency in MS Office software, ACAD/Deswik software.
• Demonstrate communication proficiency in client facing meetings and presentations.
• Provide guidance and direction to the drafting team to generate drawings, schematics alongside the associated discipline engineers for support on proposals and plant design/build opportunities
• Perform field work, data analysis and calculations
• Support the implementation of plant design standards across project delivery and engineering disciplines
• Support commercial activities, including writing, reviewing proposals, estimates and quotations
• Periodically travel to site to support business development activities, including inspections, audits and design/build opportunities
• Periodically travel to technical conferences or conventions to support business development activities

• The salary range for this position is $150,000 - $175,000. Final agreed upon compensation will be commensurate with individual education, professional designation, experience, internal parity, and location.

Qualifications
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in the mining industry.
• Minimum of five years of operational experience at operating underground mines.
• Experience with mine planning at an operational mine.
• Expert user of at least one industry standard optimization, mine design and scheduling software package such as, Deswik, Datamine, Vulcan, and Surpac.
• Experience with mine design and paste backfill solutions.
• Geological experience is preferred but not a prerequisite.
• Familiarity with international and public disclosure and reporting codes, including NI 43-101, JORC, SAMREC, Competent Persons Reports, and Mineral Expert Reports.
• Post-secondary degree in mining, civil, or geotechnical engineering.
• Registered or qualified for registration as a Professional Engineer.
• Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally, as required. Short term travel, often at short notice may be a frequent occurrence.
• Proficiency in Spanish/French/Portuguese languages would be considered an asset.
