POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Chief Mine Engineer (or their delegate), the Senior Mine Engineer will be responsible for ensuring that production targets are tracked and met in a safe and efficient manner at Gowest Gold. Setting the engineering and production targets is a primary responsibility in this role.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Supervise the Planning Group, ensuring that all planners are properly trained and aware of all applicable government and company policies and procedures.
  • Develop an 18-month plan and maintain a rolling 3-6-month plan to ensure targets are met.
  • Ensure that short and long-term schedules match the preferred zone sequencing as provided by the Rock Mechanics group.
  • Establish planning priorities and assign work to appropriate planners with achievable goals.
  • Provide scheduling information to planners, geologists and underground to ensure timely start-up and completion of individual projects.
  • Review conceptual, mine design and project work for accuracy, feasibility, and degree of completion.
  • Regular revision of monthly plans to ensure that the overall longer-term goals are being achieved and that production targets are maintained, also that the monthly plan falls within the scope of the budget or forecast plan.
  • Ensure existing projects are tracked by individual planners; schedules adjusted accordingly.
  • Ensure targets are met; discuss and solve any operational bottlenecks.
  • Tour with shifters/superintendent on a regular basis to discuss plans and to involve crews; review schedules and communicate concerns at forecast meetings.
  • Ensure monthly/3-month production forecasts are compiled and issued in a timely fashion at month end.
  • Participate in preparation of Strategic Business Plan and annual departmental budget.
  • Work on capital projects and expenditures, as required.
  • Strong understanding of ventilation and ground control design.
  • Maintain and update ore reserves.
  • Manage activities related to programs, systems, and procedures in mine design.
  • Analyze data and provide technical documentation to support decision-making.
  • Create professional short and long-range strategic planning strategies and provide execution guidance to mining processes.
  • Use operational excellence resources and methodologies to maintain a high standard of quality in all work.
  • Create and manage reports on performance and devise strategies and take any necessary actions to rectify deficiencies.
  • Provide engineering leadership and other specialist technical services and support to underground mining operations.
  • Work in a health work environment with full support, cooperation, and commitment to satisfy our operation's goal of being accident free.
  • Comply with federal and provincial acts and regulations, and legal requirements.
  • Adhere to all relevant corporate policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:
  • A degree from a recognized university in mining engineering.
  • Have a Professional Engineering Designation "P.Eng.") of Ontario or eligible to register.
  • Minimum 10-years overall underground experience including a minimum of 5 years of leadership experience.
  • Proficiency using Deswik and spreadsheet programs.
  • Good computer skills and solid background in working with software used in the preparation of development and long-hole plans.
  • 3D visualization skills.
  • Extensive knowledge of underground mining.
  • Excellent interpersonal/relationship skills; able to work and communicate with individuals and groups at all levels of the organization, written and verbal.
  • High attention to detail, strong work ethic and excellent organizational skills.
  • Proven ability to effectively prioritize duties and solve problems.
  • The ability to work in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment with the utmost professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
  • The role is located at the Frankfield Property, which is in the southwest part of Tully Township, approximately 32 km north-northeast of the City of Timmins, Ontario
  • The ideal candidate for the role will work a rotation of 4 days on and 3 days off (10-hour days). Although you will be assigned a work schedule, this is not a guaranteed schedule of hours, and your work hours may vary with the needs of the company.
