The Mechanical Engineer designs automated packaging, sortation, and labeling platforms to enable faster and more efficient delivery to Amazon's customers.
The primary role of the Mechanical Engineer is to provide technical ownership and refinement of the packaging, sortation, and labeling automation systems. Working with the Electrical and Controls teams, the Mechanical Engineer will execute the design and manufacturing of Amazon's in-house packaging machinery and automation.
Utilizing RDPI's packaging machinery & automation platforms and modules, the Mechanical Engineer in conjunction with the Electrical and Controls Engineers will execute project / platform design evolution and execution enabling the manufacturing of Amazon's in-house packaging machinery and automation. Co-located with our electrical and controls engineers, and packaging designers this role will lead the design and development to ensure that Amazon's packaging, sortation, and labeling automation is simple, effective and delivers lower total cost while enabling more sustainable packaging, streamlined supply chains and lower total cost of ownership.
Key job responsibilities
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineers to design and execute packaging machinery and automation projects
- Lead the mechanical design workstreams encompassing the core system evolution, structural member design including the modular frame, safety/guarding, and incorporation ancillary systems at the project / platform level while ensuring the technical, cost and timeline objectives are achieved
- Deliver engineering workstreams including drive system modeling, load and bearing calculations, static and dynamic torque simulations and analysis, 3D and 2D model design including the mechanical BOM generation
- Execute the detailed design evolution of modules and subsystems for material specifications, geographic requirements and continuous improvement goals aligned with MSP's platform and project level initiatives
- Partner with the Electrical Engineering, ensure project documentation is complete and scalable for electrical schematics, BOM, I/O's and subsystem programs
- Support the project team in the safety certification of the project / platform (CE, UL, CSA, TUV, etc..)
- Partner with cross-functional teams to influence and standardize engineering processes across the broader organization, ensuring consistency and traceability from concept through production
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in developing functional specifications, design verification plans and functional test procedures
- 7+ years of industrial controls and automation experience
- Proficiency in 3D design and simulation software including but not limited to Ansys, Creo, Catia, Solidworks
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience working with interdisciplinary teams to execute product design from concept to production
- Experience with the project management of technical projects
- Hands-on experience with Teamcenter or similar PLM systems; experience contributing to engineering process definition and standardization
- GD&T and manufacturing process knowledge
- Understanding of packaging machinery safety standards
- Operations experience in a manufacturing environment
- Advanced simulation expertise
The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs).
