Full Job Description
GPI is seeking a Senior Mechanical (HVAC) Design Engineer to join our growing building systems practice in Albany, New York. This position offers an opportunity to lead complex mechanical design projects in a highly collaborative environment, with strong technical and operational support. Responsibilities:
  • Lead and design HVAC and mechanical systems for a variety of building types, including commercial, institutional, healthcare, and public sector facilitiesPrepare and oversee construction documents, technical specifications, and design calculations
  • Perform load calculations, equipment selection, and system layouts in compliance with applicable codes and standards
  • Coordinate mechanical designs with architectural, structural, electrical, and plumbing disciplines
  • Interface with clients, architects, and regulatory agencies throughout project development
  • Review shop drawings, RFIs, and submittals; provide construction phase support as needed
  • Mentor junior engineers and designers, providing technical guidance and quality oversight
  • Support project pursuits, proposals, and client development activities

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred
  • Minimum 8-12 years of experience in HVAC and mechanical system design
  • Strong knowledge of ASHRAE standards, NYS Building Code, energy codes, and applicable industry standards
  • Proficiency with HVAC design and drafting software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, load calculation software)
  • Experience with public and private sector projects preferred
  • Excellent communication, coordination, and project management skills


Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • Maintain a valid driver's license with a clean motor vehicle report (MVR) for final consideration
  • Read, write, and understand plans and directions given in the English language
  • Basic computer skills with the ability to create and edit Microsoft Word and Excel documents, create Outlook emails and utilize SharePoint and Microsoft Teams to communicate with other team members
  • Able to traverse a construction job site consisting of uneven ground varying in height and consistency of material, with a variation of elevation 19" or less (mud, gravel, rutted ground, etc.)
  • Able to climb and leave a ladder to a platform varying from 6' to 20'
  • Able to wear GPI required PPE, i.e., hard hats, safety vest, work boots, and/or safety glasses/goggles while working
