We are currently seeking a
SENIOR MECHANICAL ENGINEER to support our
AIKEN, SC office out at the Savannah River Site (SRS). The Engineer will provide engineering support for U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) facilities and projects in Design Services. The Engineer must have demonstrated experience in preparing documents to support the development of or changes to complex engineering designs or design changes supporting facility or project scoped work.
As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will serve as a technical leader responsible for the design, coordination, and delivery of building mechanical systems for the SRS facilities. This role has the involvement with HVAC, plumbing, and piping system designs; potential leadership of mechanical engineering teams; and be accountable for the technical quality and quality and compliance of performed work.
The successful candidate will work close with project management, discipline leads, and facility management to deliver fully coordinated, code-compliant, and high-quality engineering solutions in accordance with the SRS established procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and oversee the design of HVAC, plumbing, and piping systems, including B31.3 process piping.
- Develop, review, approve, and check engineering calculations, layouts, specifications, and drawings.
- Apply advanced engineering judgement to resolve complex design issues.
- Support project planning by assisting with; scope definition, equipment sizing, schedule development, & budget control for mechanical design issues
- Coordinate mechanical designs with structural, electrical, architectural, and process disciplines.
- Apply applicable codes, standards, and procedures (e.g. IMC, ASHRAE, NFPA, ASME).
- Familiar with SRS Engineering Standards Program.
- Ensure all work under your technical responsibility complies with SRS engineering and quality procedures.
Required Qualifications- B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited engineering program.
- 15+ years in industrial/government design of Mechanical, HVAC, Plumbing, and related mechanical building systems.
- Demonstrated experience delivering projects from concept through detailed design completion.
- Thorough knowledge of applicable codes & standards (IMC, NFPA, ASHRAE, ASME, etc
Preferred Requirement- Previous demonstrated work history with the SRS Engineering standards program & SRS engineering procedures.
Physical Requirements- Primarily office-based work in a secure engineering environment.
- Ability to stand or sit for extended periods.
- Ability to read and use computer-aided design software effectively.
- Appropriate PPE and training will be provided as required.
Other requirements- Good communication and analytical skills: knowledgeable about Microsoft Office applications.
- Willingness to work overtime or outside normal work hours as needed.
- Individuals must be capable of obtaining a DOE site security badge. The position may require the ability to pass and maintain a Security Clearance. Due to the nature of the work, the candidate must be a US Citizen; dual citizenship is not permitted.
