Senior Engineer Manufacturing I

Exton PA

The Senior Engineer Manufacturing I will provide technical leadership, machine design, and processing expertise towards process development, scale up, and commercialization for new and existing product lines. They will be leading a large team of Research, Commercialization, and Quality Engineers tasked with developing and/or improving current and future products/processes, direct or participate in project teams within the PMP/project management process. and lead the implementation of the project to production.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead process development, process characterization, scale up and commercialization of new products/processes from lab and pilot scale to high volume manufacturing
  • Drive continuous improvement on projects/processes to enhance productivity, yield, cycle time and operating efficiency
  • Develop and manage project plans for process development activities to generate process design information for scale-up and evaluate process technical risks
  • Recommend and specify process equipment, determine sizing requirements, facilitate equipment procurement and fabrication, and identify instrumentation, controls and automation requirements
  • Provide technical support for both new and existing processes to achieve operational excellence
  • Update product /process documentation within the Engineering Change Notice process
  • Lead or participate in dsm-firmenich PMP Silver base projects
  • Support Manufacturing Excellence (MSA, OEE, IP, IER, and DICI)
  • Review & approve MOCs & ECNs
  • Review, disposition, & approve non-conformance reports, deviations, rework orders, engineering test files (ETF), design control & risk management reports

You Bring:

  • Bachelors or Master's degree in Engineering - Biomedical, Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Materials, or related field
  • 5-8 years of experience in the medical device or related industry, with a focus on manufacturing settings; experience working in an industrially focused research and development organization is also considered.
  • Proven track record in implementing process improvements and transferring technologies from lab/pilot scale to commercial production.
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project, Minitab, CAD Software, and SharePoint
  • Demonstrated project management experience. Ability to apply Project Management techniques according to PMP.
  • Extensive experience of chemical and melt processing techniques (i.e. machining, injection molding, extrusion, sterilization), manufacturing machinery and tooling.
  • Extensive knowledge of medically useful biomaterials (bio-resorbable and non-degradable).
  • Extensive knowledge and expertise working with Engineering & Quality tools (Statistics, Lean Six Sigma, DFM, DOE)
  • Working knowledge and experience working with the Regulatory pathways associated with IDE, 510k, PMA, & CE including the associated ISO & ASTM standards.
  • Extensive knowledge of electrical wiring schematics, electrical diagrams as well as PLC & PC programming.
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification preferred.


The salary or hourly wage scale provided reflects the pay range dsm-firmenich expects to pay the successful candidate for the position. Individual pay offered will be based on the applicant's job-related skills, experience, relevant education, or training, and primary work location.
