Job Description:

Johnson & Johnson is seeking a Senior Manager, SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP) AI Engineering to lead AI innovation, engineering, and delivery across SAP S/4HANA transformation programs supporting MedTech, Innovative Medicine, and Enterprise Finance, based in Raritan, NJ.

This role will lead the SAP BTP AI Engineering capability and be responsible for advancing the ERP AI Software Development Lifecycle (AI SDLC)-developing and scaling critical Generative AI and agentic AI capabilities that accelerate engineering productivity, S/4 transformation outcomes, and Technology Services (TS) value realization goals.

The Senior Manager will drive innovation across SAP Business AI, Joule, Joule Agents, BTP, Generative AI, AI-assisted software engineering, and agentic AI, while partnering with SAP, strategic technology providers, external vendors, and internal engineering organizations to bring emerging capabilities into enterprise-scale adoption.

Key Responsibilities

SAP BTP AI Engineering & S/4 Transformation

  • Lead SAP BTP AI Engineering supporting S/4HANA transformation initiatives across MedTech, Innovative Medicine, and Enterprise Finance.
  • Drive architecture, development, engineering standards, reusable services, and delivery frameworks for enterprise AI solutions built on SAP BTP.
  • Partner with S/4 transformation teams to identify, prioritize, develop, and scale high-value AI use cases.
  • Ensure AI capabilities progress rapidly from experimentation and proof-of-concept to secure, scalable, production-grade enterprise solutions.
  • Establish reusable AI engineering patterns that can be leveraged across S/4 programs, products, and business processes.


ERP AI SDLC Innovation
  • Own and advance the ERP AI SDLC innovation roadmap, transforming how SAP applications are designed, developed, tested, secured, deployed, and maintained.
  • Identify and develop critical Generative AI capabilities across the ERP software engineering lifecycle.
  • Drive AI-assisted development capabilities for requirements engineering, architecture, code generation, code modernization, testing, documentation, security analysis, deployment, and application support.
  • Establish an integrated AI engineering experience across SAP development technologies including ABAP, RAP, CAP, Fiori/UI5, BTP, APIs, integrations, and S/4 extensions.
  • Explore and operationalize agentic engineering approaches where specialized AI agents can assist engineering teams throughout the software development lifecycle.
  • Define measurable engineering productivity and quality metrics to demonstrate AI SDLC value realization.


Joule & Developer Productivity
  • Drive adoption and advancement of SAP Joule, Joule for Developers, Joule Agents, SAP Business AI, and related AI productivity capabilities.
  • Evaluate emerging Joule capabilities and establish enterprise adoption patterns across SAP engineering teams.
  • Identify opportunities to improve developer productivity, engineering quality, speed-to-market, and automation using Joule and complementary AI engineering technologies.
  • Partner with SAP and internal engineering teams to influence and accelerate capabilities required for enterprise-scale SAP AI development.
  • Establish measurement frameworks for productivity improvements and realized business value.


Generative & Agentic AI Capabilities
  • Lead development of critical Generative AI and agentic AI engineering capabilities required by the ERP transformation.
  • Establish reusable enterprise patterns for LLM integration, RAG, enterprise knowledge, agent orchestration, tool calling, prompt management, evaluation, guardrails, and observability.
  • Develop secure approaches for AI agents to interact with SAP business processes, APIs, enterprise data, and other applications.
  • Advance multi-agent and human-in-the-loop architectures where appropriate for complex enterprise workflows.


TS Value Realization
  • Align the SAP BTP AI Engineering and ERP AI SDLC roadmap with Technology Services value realization objectives.
  • Translate AI investments into measurable outcomes including engineering productivity, development-cycle reduction, improved quality, faster S/4 delivery, reduced technical debt, increased automation, and lower operating costs.
  • Establish KPIs and measurement frameworks to quantify the value delivered through AI engineering initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities where GenAI can materially accelerate major transformation programs and improve overall technology delivery effectiveness.
  • Partner with technology and business leadership to prioritize AI investments based on measurable enterprise value.


External Innovation & Strategic Partnerships
  • Establish and manage strategic engineering relationships with SAP and external AI technology vendors and partners.
  • Continuously evaluate emerging AI technologies, development platforms, models, frameworks, and engineering tools relevant to SAP and ERP transformation.
  • Lead joint innovation, pilots, proof-of-concepts, and co-development initiatives with strategic technology partners.
  • Evaluate build-versus-buy-versus-partner decisions for new AI engineering capabilities.
  • Work with vendors to influence product roadmaps based on enterprise SAP engineering requirements.
  • Convert successful external innovation into governed, reusable enterprise capabilities rather than isolated experiments.


AI Governance, Security & Responsible AI
  • Ensure AI applications, development tools, and agents comply with enterprise requirements for security, privacy, responsible AI, regulatory compliance, and data governance.
  • Establish controls for agent authentication, authorization, data access, human oversight, auditability, evaluation, monitoring, and lifecycle management.
  • Partner with cybersecurity, architecture, risk, privacy, and compliance organizations to enable responsible adoption of AI within critical ERP environments.


Engineering Leadership
  • Lead and mentor teams of SAP BTP engineers, AI engineers, architects, developers, and technical leads.
  • Build a strong engineering culture focused on innovation, experimentation, reusable platforms, automation, and measurable outcomes.
  • Collaborate across S/4 functional teams, product owners, architecture, platform engineering, security, data, and business organizations.
  • Communicate AI strategy, technology direction, engineering progress, risks, and value realization to senior leadership.


Required Qualifications
  • 12+ years of technology experience, with significant experience in SAP engineering, enterprise platforms, and large-scale transformation.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, Data Science, or a related field.
  • Strong experience with SAP BTP, SAP S/4HANA, and enterprise application development.
  • Knowledge of Generative AI, Agentic AI, SAP Business AI, Joule, and AI-assisted software engineering.
  • Certifications in SAP BTP, SAP S/4HANA, AI/ML are highly desirable.
  • Proven leadership experience managing large-scale SAP transformation programs and engineering teams.
  • Strong knowledge of SAP Business AI, Joule, Joule Agents, and SAP's emerging AI ecosystem.
  • Strong understanding of SAP development technologies including ABAP, RAP, CAP, Fiori/UI5, APIs, integration, and BTP extension architectures.
  • Experience with AI-assisted software engineering, developer productivity platforms, or AI-enabled SDLC transformation.
  • Experience moving emerging technologies from experimentation and POC through enterprise production adoption.
  • Demonstrated experience working with major technology vendors and strategic partners.
  • Strong understanding of enterprise architecture, security, responsible AI, and technology governance.
  • Proven ability to lead engineering teams and influence senior stakeholders across complex global organizations.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Joule for Developers, SAP AI Foundation, RAG, vector databases, knowledge graphs, AI agents, multi-agent architectures, MCP/tool integration, AI evaluation, observability, and guardrails is highly desirable.
  • Experience establishing enterprise AI engineering platforms, reusable AI services, engineering accelerators, developer productivity capabilities, and measurable technology value-realization frameworks is preferred.
