Job Summary

The Senior Manager, Product Innovation Engineering, Plasma will lead the innovation and execution of plasma technology and new product development for Nordson products based in Carlsbad, CA. This role is responsible for contributing to and executing product and technology roadmaps for plasma-based solutions while working closely with customers, commercial teams, and cross-functional engineering partners to deliver on-time, high quality products that meet performance expectations. The Senior Manager, Product Innovation Engineering, Plasma will lead and develop a high-performing engineering team, provide strategic and hands-on technical direction in plasma systems, vacuum processing, and semiconductor manufacturing applications, and partner globally to strengthen Nordson’s technical leadership and long-term product pipeline.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plans and directs new product development activities for plasma technology, systems, and related hardware platforms.
  • Participates with other senior managers to establish strategic plans, product roadmaps, and technology objectives for plasma-based products.
  • Leads a technical team responsible for plasma systems, vacuum processing, chamber design, diagnostics, and semiconductor manufacturing applications.
  • Participates in development of methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for projects, programs, and people.
  • Ensures budgets, schedules, technical deliverables, and product development milestones meet corporate and business requirements.
  • Regularly interacts with executives, senior managers, commercial teams, and major customers to promote and demonstrate Nordson’s technical capability as a plasma subject matter leader.
  • Directs and controls the activities of a broad functional area through managers, technical leads, and senior individual contributors.
  • Coordinates system-level analysis of interfaces, including mechanical, electrical, RF power delivery, software, firmware, vacuum, and process subsystems.
  • Leads root cause analysis, failure analysis, and product performance improvement efforts for complex and highly visible customer or product issues.
  • Coordinates with growth, strategy, and product teams to maintain a healthy product development pipeline and identify opportunities for plasma technology innovation.
  • Participates in the development and strategy of patent applications and supports intellectual property generation for plasma products and processes.
  • Maintains knowledge of state-of-the-art plasma principles, semiconductor process requirements, and related technology trends; may contribute to scientific literature, conferences, or customer-facing technical forums.
  • Mentors, coaches, and develops engineering talent while building a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, and technical excellence.
  • May coordinate interdepartmental and global research or development efforts, including customer requested specials and system modifications.
  • Other duties may be assigned as required.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Requires a Bachelor’s or Master’s University degree in Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, or a related technical field, plus 10 or more years of engineering leadership or management experience.
  • Requires strong experience with plasma systems, preferably including RF plasma systems, vacuum processing, and semiconductor manufacturing applications.
  • Advanced degree or equivalent deep technical expertise in plasma physics, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, or a related field is preferred.

  • Proficiency in modeling, simulation, and data analysis tools (e.g., MATLAB, ANSYS).
  • Understanding of semiconductor process control, DOE, SPC, and yield optimization.
  • Familiarity with diagnostics tools (Langmuir probes, spectroscopy, etc.).
  • Strong knowledge of plasma physics, RF power delivery and vacuum chamber design

Compensation
Salary range for this position is: $180,000 to $240,000 annually.
The base pay range for this job level is a general guideline and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including but not limited to internal equity, business considerations, and local market conditions, as well as candidate qualifications, such as education, experience, and skills.
