Full Job Description
As Senior Manager, Portfolio Management within the Commercial Banking team you will be responsible for leading a team of underwriting professionals that will focus on both growth and risk objectives. Working closely with Commercial Account Managers, Underwriters, and you will have a direct and positive impact on your team members, colleagues, clients and the Bank's growth objectives thanks to your deep knowledge of, and experience with, commercial lending.

The Senior Manager, Portfolio Management will be a player/coach leader focused on sharing knowledge, uplifting abilities and harnessing excellence from the underwriting team, and have a solutions-oriented mindset in the midst of change.

Your Job:
  • Lead a team of underwriters, provide coaching, direct feedback, and upskilling for employees ensuring exceptional client experiences in every interaction.
  • Support the Commercial Banking team in managing, and growing, an existing portfolio of commercial lending relationships in the Edmonton Downtown District, by completing assessment of existing and potential clients to determine alignment with the Banks product offering, financing structures and risk appetite.
  • Work with team members on initial transaction analysis and deal structuring, ensuring support and oversight is provided prior to submission to Credit Risk Management.
  • Uphold and manage the team's credit abilities, ensuring they meet the highest standards of financial analysis, credit structuring and risk identification & mitigation, while ensuring that internal policies are adhered to.
  • Occasionally author credit applications for the most complex transactions.
  • Provide assistance to the underwriting team with the presentation of their credit applications and challenge team members to think beyond the surface to develop financing scenarios that meet both client needs and the Bank's risk criteria.
  • Manage and monitor the loan portfolio to ensure alignment with the Bank's established parameters.
  • Work with adjacent teams to ensure required conditions are met prior to funding, ensuring a positive working relationship is maintained at all times.

Basic Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, business, economics, finance or a related field
  • Professional designation(s) and/or an advanced degree is considered a strong asset
  • 7+ years of related commercial banking experience
  • Experience building, developing and leading a team of credit underwriting professionals, ranging in abilities from entry level to mid-professional
  • Exceptional commercial credit analysis skills, and the ability to creatively solve problems
  • Clear, succinct and persuasive credit writing capabilities
  • An entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to blend strong technical knowledge with sound business judgement
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with an ability to effectively collaborate with partners at all levels
