We are seeking a Senior Manager, Medical Data Strategy & Management to support the data capabilities for assigned programs in GMA.  The overall objective is to ensure that medical teams have trusted, timely, AI-ready data to drive scientific engagement, evidence generation, medical insights, and patient-centric decision-making.    The role is responsible for data management and for implementation of data products in the Alexion data ecosystem architecture.  In addition, this role has responsibility to represent GMA to the Alexion Data Office, ensuring that Medical Affairs perspectives are considered, and that Data Office requirements are in turn implemented.   The incumbent will take direction from the Head, Digital Health & Medical Affairs Technologies within the Digital Innovation & Data Generation function in GMA.

You will be responsible for:

  • Data Strategy: Contribute to the development and execution of the data strategy for Global Medical Affairs, aligned to enterprise data strategy and medical function ambitions, with AI and GenAI readiness as a key design principle.
  • Data Governance: Operationalize the data governance framework for assigned programs in medical affairs, including data ownership, stewardship, data quality, master and reference data, metadata, lineage, privacy, and compliance.
  • Data Management: Directly responsible for data flow and management for assigned programs.
  • Data Product Delivery & Management: Support the end-to-end lifecycle of medical affairs data products, from ideation through delivery, adoption, and continuous improvement. Apply a data-as-a-product mindset, ensuring products are structured, labeled, and enriched to be consumable by AI, ML, and GenAI use cases.
  • Cross-Functional Partnership: Collaborate closely with IT, Alexion Data Office, and Medical Affairs functions of other AstraZeneca business units to accelerate AI-enabled use cases.
  • Alexion Data Office Representation: Serve as the designated representative of Global Medical Affairs in the Alexion Data Office, advocating for medical affairs priorities and acting as a mediator between the two functions.
  • Innovation & Continuous Improvement: Stay current with trends in real-world evidence, digital health data, AI, GenAI, agentic AI, data mesh, and evolving regulatory expectations, and contribute to pilots that improve how medical affairs uses data.

You will need to have:

  • Bachelor's degree in life science, data science, engineering, or other relevant field
  • A minimum of 5–7 years of progressive experience in data strategy, data management, data governance, or data product roles within the life sciences industry, with a strong track record of delivering impact as an individual contributor.  Experience should include leveraging data for AI, ML, or GenAI use cases.
  • Experience contributing to enterprise or functional data strategies, and supporting the design, delivery, and management of data flow, services and/or products.
  • Worked within data governance frameworks, including master data management, data quality, and metadata management.  Familiarity with data mesh, data-as-a-product, AI-ready data principles, and responsible AI frameworks.
  • Familiarity with platforms used for enterprise data and metadata management and dissemination, and with life science applications and systems that support Medical Affairs or Commercial functions.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills, and ability to work in a matrixed environment.
  • Working knowledge of global data privacy regulations and emerging AI regulations, along with awareness of the ethical issues and sensitive nature of medical affairs data
  • The duties of this role are generally conducted in an office environment. As is typical of an office-based role, employees must be able, with or without an accommodation to: use a computer; engage in communications via phone, video, and electronic messaging; engage in problem solving and non-linear thought, analysis, and dialogue; collaborate with others; maintain general availability during standard business hours.

We would prefer for you to have:

  • Experience participating in enterprise-level data governance bodies or forums
  • An advanced degree in a relevant discipline is advantageous
