Summary

The Sr. Manager, Guidance, Navigation and Control is an experienced individual within the GNC, technology or related industry with extensive knowledge performing their function in a fast-paced organization. As a member of the Tactical Unmanned Aircraft System's Engineering management team, one participates in executing the overall strategic technology roadmap that will drive the business growth in a very competitive market space. Responsible for building a functional organization that has the capabilities and capacities to meet the business needs. Manages the design and development of new Unmanned Aircraft System products as well as product changes and enhancements

Position Responsibilities
  • Manages a group of GNC engineering professionals, including budget planning, staffing, training, performance evaluation and career development
  • Responsible for managing team in the full life-cycle of GN&C subsystems (Guidance, Navigation & Control) including design, development, coding, debugging, testing, simulation, analysis, and maintenance
  • Analyze systems and flight test data to support model improvements and root cause investigation of failures and anomalies
  • Responsible for managing resources to meet project demands. Plans workload for GNC engineer design activities
  • Document designs and analyses with written reports, presentations, and Engineering drawings
  • Characterize, analyze, test, and troubleshoot control system hardware and software subsystems
  • Architect and develop comprehensive, reusable simulation and analysis tools for model-based control and estimation designs. Architect comprehensive GN&C systems with focus on reuse of qualified design and analysis elements
  • Lead GN&C-related design requirements development and architecture/design reviews
  • Provides technical expertise and guidance to team to meet applicable deadlines
  • Frequently interacts with subordinate supervisors, customers and/or functional peer group managers, normally involving matters between functional areas

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills & Experience)
  • Bachelor's degree in an Engineering Field is required or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Combination of 15 years industry/managerial experience in a progressive technical capacity in GN&C and adjacent fields
  • Proficient with developing linearized models from nonlinear flight dynamics models about trim operating conditions
  • Proficient with linear controls design and analysis tools and techniques
  • Experience with aerodynamic stability and control modes, models, concepts, and coefficients
  • Experience in designing, developing, and analyzing aided inertial navigation systems
  • Demonstrated strong skills in classical and modern controls design and analysis approaches
  • Experience designing Monte Carlo, hardware-in-the-loop, and/or 6DOF simulation environments
  • Expert knowledge of appropriate design, analysis and simulation tools and validation techniques
  • Proficient in C++; Demonstrated understanding and competence in object-oriented design


Other Qualifications & Desired Competencies
  • Master's or PhD with GN&C-related focus is preferred
  • Familiarity with real-time operating systems a plus
  • Maintains a high level of customer satisfaction with both internal and external customers
  • Utilize modeling based design and promote the culture of design for manufacturing

The salary range for this role is:
$141,000 - $215,000
