Full Job Description
The Senior External Communications Manager leads the development and execution of strategic media relations and external communications initiatives that bolster the organization's reputation and market positioning. This role translates complex data and business insights into compelling narratives that resonate with media, analysts, partners, clients, and other key external audiences. This is a highly visible role that works closely with senior leaders across the organization to shape and amplify strategic communications priorities that support the business.

Essential Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute external communications strategies aligned to organizational objectives and market priorities.
  • Lead media relations strategy and execution, including proactive pitching, reactive response, and cultivating relationships across AI, technology, business, financial, and industry media.
  • Guide the development of press releases, media pitches, Q&A documents, social media content, and executive talking points, ensuring quality and messaging consistency.
  • Translate complex data and proprietary business insights into clear, compelling narratives for external audiences, including media, analysts, clients, prospects, and partners.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional subject matter experts to validate data-driven findings and ensure methodological rigor in external communications.
  • Manage public relations agency relationships, directing strategy, priorities, and execution to maximize media impact and program effectiveness.
  • Define success metrics and track performance of external communications programs, leveraging media analytics and reporting to assess impact and inform strategic planning.


Essential Skills and/or Certifications

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, journalism, or a related field is required
  • 8+ years of experience in communications, public relations, journalism, or marketing in either an agency or in-house setting.
  • Background in business, financial services, data and analytics, or technology sectors preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and executing strategic external communications programs, including media relations and executive visibility initiatives.
  • Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills with the ability to translate complex data and business topics into clear, compelling narratives for diverse external audiences.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality outputs under tight deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and collaborate across functions at all levels of the organization.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
