Full Job Description
ABOUT THE JOB

Electrical design for MCU, FPGA platforms, including board design, layout, schematic review, and capability for performing DFM/DFT. Strong debug capability with MCU Peripheral Interfaces (I2C / SPI / UART / CAN, etc). You will dive deep into complex electrical and electro-mechanical failures, applying a rigorous, data-driven approach to diagnose issues, identifying their fundamental causes, and drive lasting solutions. Your work will directly impact on the reliability, safety, and operational success of our deployed autonomous systems.

This Senior Electrical Engineering Manager role is a critical leadership position. You will direct the technical design, development, and team strategy for electrical systems across multiple projects. This includes managing project timelines, budgets, and a team of engineers to ensure top-tier product delivery. Furthermore, your leadership guarantees the fulfillment of manufacturing's test throughput requirements. This position demands an innovative approach to resolving complex testing challenges, advancing scalability, and enhancing our automation, throughput, user interfaces, and data analytics methodologies.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
  • Lead the investigation and diagnosis of complex electrical and electro-mechanical failures across our product portfolio, including power electronics, high-speed digital, analog, RF, and mixed-signal systems.
  • Team Leadership & Mentorship: Hire, train, and manage a team of electrical engineers. Provide technical guidance, conduct performance evaluations, and foster a culture of continuous learning.
Project Execution: Oversee electrical scope development, from early concept design and architectural integration through to testing and final commissioning.
  • Employ structured investigative methodologies (e.g., 5 Whys, Fishbone diagrams, Fault Tree Analysis) to systematically uncover the true source of failures, whether they originate from design, manufacturing, environmental factors, or operational use.
  • Design and execute comprehensive fault isolation and characterization tests, leveraging a deep understanding of circuit design, signal integrity, power integrity, and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC).
  • Utilize an advanced suite of diagnostic tools and techniques, including but not limited to: oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, logic analyzers, network analyzers, thermal cameras, microscopy (optical, SEM), X-ray imaging, and custom test fixtures.
  • Analyze large datasets from field deployments, manufacturing test results, and lab experiments to identify trends, anomalies, and potential failure modes.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with design engineers, manufacturing, test engineers, supply chain, and field operations teams to communicate findings, propose effective corrective actions, and implement preventative measures.
  • Document findings meticulously in detailed failure analysis reports, providing clear explanations, evidence, and actionable recommendations.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of our design, manufacturing, and test processes by feeding back insights from investigations to improve product robustness and reliability from inception.
  • Develop and validate design improvements or manufacturing process changes to address identified issues, ensuring robust solutions are implemented.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree and / or Masters in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • 10+ years of hands-on experience in electrical engineering with a significant focus on hardware debug, failure analysis, and reliability investigations.
  • At least 5 years in a managerial or technical leadership role
  • Proven expertise in diagnosing failures across a range of electrical domains, including analog circuits, digital logic, power electronics (DC/DC converters, motor drivers), RF/microwave, and mixed-signal systems.
  • Understanding of communication bus protocols: RS-232/RS-422/RS-485, USB, I2C, I2S, CSI, Ethernet, SPI, PCIe, HDMI, CAN, serial comms, etc
  • Deep theoretical and practical understanding of electronic components, PCB design, manufacturing processes, and common failure mechanisms.
  • Proficiency with standard lab equipment (oscilloscopes, DMMs, power supplies, logic analyzers, function generators) and advanced diagnostic tools.
  • Experience with communication bus protocols: USB, I2C, I2S, CSI, Ethernet, SPI, PCIe, HDMI, CAN, serial comms, etc
  • Working knowledge of LabVIEW, Python, or other industry-standard test software environments
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills, with a first-principles approach to dissecting complex technical challenges.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively convey complex technical concepts and findings to diverse audiences.
  • Eligible to obtain and maintain an active US Secret Security Clearance
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master's or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering.
  • Experience with advanced failure analysis techniques such as destructive physical analysis (DPA), cross-sectioning, SEM/EDS, X-ray computed tomography (CT), or thermal imaging.
  • Familiarity with reliability engineering principles (MTBF, FMEA, HALT/HASS testing).
  • Experience in a high-volume manufacturing environment or with systems deployed in harsh outdoor conditions.
  • Proficiency with scripting languages (e.g., Python, MATLAB) for data analysis and automation.
  • Familiarity with ECAD tools (e.g., Altium, Eagle, OrCAD, KiCad) for schematic and layout review.
  • Experience with regulated industries (e.g., aerospace, defense, medical).
  • Hold an active US Secret or Top Secret Security Clearance
