Summary The Center for AI and Digital Experience (AIDE) is a joint, mission-driven center jointly established between University Hospitals (UH)-Northeast Ohio Medical University (NEOMED) to focus on advancing human-centered artificial intelligence in healthcare.
The Senior Manager for AI Enablement, leading the Clinical Innovation and Development team within the AIDE, is responsible for translating AI solutions into practical, scalable applications for utilization within clinical and operational environments. This role is a "chief of staff" to the Executive Director, serving as the primary entrance point to triage opportunities from both the inside of UH/NEOMED as well as outside, e.g., startups, external opportunities. This role will also oversee human-centered design work to identify end-user needs, work that requires securing research clearance (e.g., approval or exemption from IRBs), alignment with existing and new governance and process approvals, and assisting with moving AI enabled solutions to deployment. The Senior Manager serves as a key bridge between technical development and real-world application, overseeing prioritization of work, evaluation of AI model performance, and integration of AI solutions into practice.
Principal Functional Responsibilities Tech Core Sourcing and Triage: Oversee the sourcing, intake, and triage frameworks and processes for evaluating AI solutions and prioritizing technology candidates for the AIDE Product and Technology Core (a.k.a. "AI Studio"). Conduct assessments of available tools, vendor solutions, and emerging technologies relevant to clinical and research priorities. Develop and apply structured criteria to assess "Big Ideas" and for prioritizing development and deployment opportunities based on clinical need, feasibility, strategic alignment, and potential impact.
Research Enablement and Reporting: Support the design and execution of research activities associated with AI development and validation, including study design, IRB documentation requirements, and outcomes measurement. Ensure that AI tools deployed in clinical settings are evaluated for clinical impact and bias. Work with UH/NEOMED IT and AIDE AI Studio members to ensure that the transition from development to deployment includes post-deployment performance monitoring. Develop and maintain impact reports to communicate the outcomes and value of AI initiatives to internal and external stakeholders, including Senior Executives.
Clinical AI Translation: Lead processes associated with translating AI products and solutions developed and designed internally within UH/NEOMED ("inside-out") or in collaboration with an external organization ("outside-in") into clinical and operational environments. Oversee implementation activities, including the creation or updating of clinical protocols to integrate AI models into workflows or clinical decision making. Coordinates discovery work such as identifying unmet needs, and training and communication with end users to support use and/or adoption. Develop and execute implementation strategies that account for clinical workflow, change management, and stakeholder readiness. Partner with healthcare enterprise IT, clinical operations, and other designated operational owners to support transition from pilot or prototype into governed operational use; this role does not independently own production hosting, enterprise integration, or long-term operation of clinical AI systems.
Human-Centered Design for Identifying Unmet Needs and Stakeholder Engagement: Apply human-centered design principles to the development of AI solutions, ensuring that tools are co-designed with clinician experts, researchers, and end users to reflect real-world needs and workflows. Cultivate an innovation environment that actively engages administrative leaders, clinicians, researchers, and other end users in AI solution design and adoption. Lead change management efforts associated with AI adoption, including stakeholder engagement, communication planning, and training program development.
Governance Liaison and Alignment: Serve as the primary operational liaison between the AI Studio in AIDE and institutional AI governance bodies. Ensure that each AI initiative addresses specific needs, including patient care/decision support and operational efficiencies. Ensures alignment with institutional priorities, feasibility, workforce impacts, and clinician satisfaction, while remaining aligned with overarching governance principles, including safety and regulatory compliance. Develop and maintain standardized implementation guidelines for AI solutions to move from pilot phase to full enablement across the institution.
Stakeholder Coordination and Institutional Integration: Coordinate efforts across relevant stakeholders to facilitate successful adoption and integration of AI solutions. Facilitate cross-functional working groups, document decisions, and manage follow-through on action items. Represent the AI Studio in AIDE on relevant institutional committees and governance forums, as appropriate.
Administrative Responsibilities: Maintain project documentation, including enablement activities, implementation timelines, and performance metrics. Support budget tracking and resource planning, as needed. Contribute to the preparation of reports and materials for leadership, governance bodies, and external audiences. Directly supervise and evaluate multiple employees, including managers and analysts.
Miscellaneous Duties: Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications - Master's degree in health informatics, public health, clinical sciences, healthcare administration, business administration, human factors, or a related field.
- Minimum of three years of management experience in clinical implementation, health technology deployment, or a related function within a healthcare, academic medical, or research setting.
- Demonstrated experience leading change management or implementation efforts for technology or AI solutions in clinical environments.
- Experience working across multidisciplinary teams, including clinical, technical, operational, and administrative stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications - Experience with human-centered design methodologies or design thinking frameworks in healthcare settings.
- Familiarity with AI governance principles, responsible AI frameworks, and regulatory considerations relevant to clinical AI deployment.
- Experience with research enablement activities, including IRB processes, outcomes measurement, or clinical study coordination strongly preferred.
- Experience conducting market or internal landscape assessments to inform technology prioritization decisions.
- Certification in project management (PMP), change management (PROSCI), health informatics (CPHIMS), or Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI).
- Certificates in human-centered design or design thinking (e.g., IDEOU, LUMA Institute, IBM Design Thinking).
Physical Requirements Must be able to utilize a phone, computer, and other office equipment. Must be able and willing to travel to off-site events and educational sessions.
