The Opportunity:

As part of UCF's Technology Transfer Office, the Senior Licensing Associate position manages the transfer of physical science technologies from university into commercial sectors. Manages technology review, intellectual property (IP) legal protection, IP license negotiations, and IP promotion in media and at scientific and technology related events.

Classification Title: License & Patent Associate II

Responsibilities:
  • Manages the protection and licensing of a portion of the UCF Research Foundation IP portfolio which includes patents, trademarks and copyrights in the areas of physical sciences. Drafts and negotiates license agreements and other types of agreements, including material transfer, inter-institutional, and nondisclosure agreements.
  • Assesses and evaluates new technologies disclosed to Technology Transfer. Identifies commercial uses and recommends appropriate legal protection and ensures adherence to IP laws and regulations.
  • Reviews and edits promotional materials to advertise new technologies to prospective industry partners. Leads outreach to commercialize technologies and promotes new technologies at scientific conferences and to business communities.
  • Reviews, edits, and negotiates IP terms and conditions for UCF sponsored research activities. Coordinates IP matters between contract manager, general counsel, principal investigator, and external sponsor/external counsel.
  • Attracts and cultivates relationships with university researchers, entrepreneurs and industry partners to drive licensing deal flow and potential sponsored research activity.
  • Supervises, trains, and instructs one or more intellectual property specialist, licensing assistant, students and/or interns.
  • Conducts workshops and delivers presentations to educate internal and external communities on Technology Transfer matters, best practices and IP policies.
  • Attends professional trade conferences.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's or Master's degree and 4+ years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219(6).

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Engineering (e.g., Mechanical, Civil, Electrical) or a related physical science field.
  • 3+ years of demonstrated success in drafting, negotiating, and implementing legal agreements.
  • Strong customer service orientation with experience collaborating with faculty, legal teams, and external partners.
  • Proven business development and finance acumen.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with the ability to build and maintain strong relationships.
  • Ability to evaluate market potential and effectively communicate with different stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with patent assessment and market research methodologies.
  • Prior experience in technology transfer and outbound software licensing.
