Position SummaryRole and ResponsibilitiesSamsung is looking for an experienced, highly organized, detail-oriented attorney to support Samsung's businesses on privacy and data security compliance matters.
The role will report to the Head of Privacy and will work in an ongoing and collaborative way with all business units including business, legal, marketing, HR, and other teams in carrying out her or his responsibilities. The ideal candidate for this role must have deep substantive knowledge of online privacy issues as well as strong transactional skills. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Counsel and support Samsung businesses on all privacy matters, ensuring compliance with CCPA, COPPA and other relevant state and federal privacy laws and regulations
- Track and advise on legal, regulatory, and policy developments relating to data collection and use, online privacy, healthcare, tracking and analytics, advanced advertising, and related issues
- Develop and implement comprehensive privacy policies and procedures
- Conduct data privacy impact assessments and other analyses of personal data usage
- Collaborate with various departments to integrate privacy considerations into business processes and projects
- Stay abreast of regulatory developments and enforcement actions related to privacy and data protection
- Manage data breach response and notification processes
- Provide training and raise awareness on privacy and data protection issues among employees
- Represent the company in privacy-related matters and liaise with regulatory authorities
- Drafting and negotiating vendor and customer contracts and counseling the business with respect to privacy and information security issues
- Partner with Samsung's Korea Headquarter (HQ) Privacy team to support the rollout of local privacy initiatives and assist with projects as needed
Skills and QualificationsMinimum Qualifications:- A Juris Doctor is required
- Licensed to practice law of a US state bar in good standing
- 5-8 years total legal work experience, with at least three years at a large law firm or in-house advising on data privacy matters
- Comprehensive understanding of U.S. data privacy and security laws (e.g., CPRA, COPPA, TCPA)
Preferred Qualifications:- Certifications such as CIPP, CIPM
- Experience with issues regarding Artificial Intelligence, children's data and consumer health information
- Solid knowledge of online advertising and data solutions (e.g., use of cookies and cookie alternatives, programmatic advertising, data management platforms, data suppliers)
- Demonstrated analytical experience, including experience assessing risk from a privacy and data protection perspective
- Ability to multitask and to work both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to formulate creative solutions to accomplish business objectives
- Ability to navigate highly matrixed and complex organizations successfully as part of a team
