Full Job Description
Lycopodium Americas is currently recruiting for a Lead Legal Counsel to join our growing Commercial team in Mississauga, Ontario.

Reporting to the SVP Commercial the Lead Legal Counsel will be responsible for providing legal services to Lycopodium Americas its subsidiaries and related entities. Liaising with the General Counsel team in Australia, and other legal and paralegal staff.

The tasks you'll perform
  • Perform legal review, compilation, negotiation and approval of contractual documents including: general conditions, special conditions, scope of work documents, compensation schedules and the like.
  • Assist others with legal review, negotiation and drafting of material/high risk commercial and legal agreements.
  • Review, negotiate and draft all other (non-material or high risk) commercial and legal agreements with minimal legal supervision.
  • Assist in the development, review and compliance with specific contract drafts, management procedures and standards to ensure deliverables are achieved to a consistently high standard.
  • Assist the Company and Business Units with review and advice on contracts, including with respect to the assessment and recommendations with respect to the legal aspects of claims, variations, extensions of time and other related matters.
  • Draft and review correspondence to be issued to clients, sub-consultants and or managed contractors by the Company and all Business Units.
  • Answer Company and Business Unit queries in relation to legal contract matters or other legal matters.
  • Conduct and assist with legal research and preparation of legal advice.
  • Prepare and update internal forms for compliance and approval in accordance with Company policies.
  • Prepare and maintain legal risk registers and contractual compliance requirements.
  • Compile monthly reporting on legal activities, risks and liabilities.
  • Comply with procedures, standards and policies.
  • Resolve contract document ambiguities.
  • Liaise with the Lycopodium leadership team and provide updates as required on necessary legal issues, compliance and outstanding items to resolve.

The expertise you'll bring
  • Bachelor of Law or Juris Doctor from a recognised tertiary institution.
  • At least 10 years' working experience in a related engineering, construction or consulting field including at least 3 years' experience post admission to practice in Canada (preferably Ontario).
