PERMANENT FULL-TIME POSITION IN NORTH VANCOUVER

Join the Ta na wa Ns7éyxnitm ta Snewiyálh Language & Cultural Affairs team as a Senior Language Teacher, helping to strengthen and revitalize the Skwxwú7mesh language through teaching, curriculum development, and community engagement.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Language and Cultural Affairs, you will deliver language instruction in K-12 and post-secondary settings while working with Elders, language speakers, learners, and educational partners to advance Squamish language revitalization.

What You'll Do
  • Deliver Squamish language instruction in K-12 and post-secondary settings.
  • Develop curriculum, lesson plans, and instructional resources.
  • Support language translation projects and requests.
  • Create learning materials, visual aids, storybooks, games, and other teaching tools.
  • Evaluate student progress and provide feedback and reports.
  • Support post-secondary students through office hours and academic guidance.
  • Collaborate with Elders, language speakers, linguists, and educational partners.
  • Provide cultural and historical guidance to departmental initiatives.
  • Participate in curriculum development and language revitalization projects.
  • Attend team meetings, professional development, and community learning opportunities.
  • Mentor and support language instructors as needed.
  • Support departmental goals and organizational priorities.

What We're Looking For
  • Master of Arts in Indigenous Language Proficiency, or a Bachelor of Arts in Linguistics with significant Squamish language teaching experience.
  • 6-7 years of experience teaching Squamish language to youth and/or adults.
  • Fluent speaker of Skwxwú7mesh Sníchim beyond the level being taught.
  • Experience teaching in post-secondary environments is an asset.
  • Experience developing curriculum, instructional materials, and language-learning resources.
  • Knowledge of Squamish culture, protocols, history, and ways of knowing.
  • Experience collaborating with Elders, linguists, and community partners.
  • Strong facilitation, communication, and relationship-building skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to reconciliation, decolonization, and Indigenous education.
  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office and digital tools.
  • Valid BC Driver's Licence and reliable vehicle access.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Skwxwú7mesh Úxwumixw history, culture, customs, land, and People is preferred.

Salary: $80,026 - $120,040
