Are you a senior engineer interested in expanding the use of open-source intelligence (OSINT) data for end users and data scientists across the Intelligence Community?
We're hiring a Senior Data Platform Engineer to help expand our AWS- and Kubernetes-based data lake into a community-wide data hub. Our goal is to modernize the unclassified OSINT data layer by developing new access patterns and services that support AI/ML enrichment, ETL pipelines, and data discovery and dissemination.

What You'll Do in This Role
• Build backend services using Java and the Spring ecosystem
• Develop cloud-native solutions using AWS
• Contribute to full-stack development using React and Next.js
• Support event-driven architectures and distributed systems
• Work across multiple projects within the data platform and data pipeline unit
• Follow established Infrastructure as Code and Kubernetes patterns using technologies such as Terraform and Terragrunt
• Collaborate with DevOps teams on infrastructure-related initiatives
• Help modernize and expand data access, metadata services, and platform capabilities
Minimum Qualifications
• Active Secret clearance or higher, with the willingness and ability to upgrade to a TS/SCI clearance with a polygraph
• Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, or equivalent professional experience
• Eight or more years of experience developing applications using Java and the Spring Framework
• Experience developing solutions in AWS cloud environments
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform or AWS CloudFormation
• Experience with event-driven architectures and technologies such as Amazon SNS/SQS, EventBridge, Kinesis, or JMS
• Primary residence within a two-hour commuting distance of our Herndon office
• Ability to work effectively as both a collaborative team member and a self-starter in a dynamic environment
Desired Qualifications
• Active TS/SCI clearance with a polygraph
• Experience designing, developing, and supporting modern data platforms, data lakes, and data pipelines using technologies such as Databricks, Apache Spark, Snowflake, or comparable tools
• Experience optimizing platform performance and storage for client access patterns, supporting distributed data architectures, and implementing data lifecycle capabilities, including CRUD operations and record versioning
• Experience with testing frameworks and tools such as JUnit, AssertJ, Mockito, or Spring Runner
• Experience with scripting languages such as Python or Bash
• Experience working in Linux environments
• Experience using Git for source control
• Deep, hands-on experience with AWS services such as Amazon S3, DynamoDB, EKS, DocumentDB, Lambda, Timestream, CloudWatch, EC2, or ECS
• Experience developing and deploying containerized applications
• Experience with Kubernetes
• Experience with React or Next.js
• Ability to identify and interpret external data specifications and common data representations
• Experience building monitoring and alerting capabilities for data pipelines using tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, or Splunk
• Experience contributing to open-source projects or communities
The base salary pay range for this role is $146,000 - $255,500. This range reflects base compensation only and does not include benefits, bonuses, or additional pay incentives associated with the opportunity.
