Overview

The Senior Investment Accountant will review or prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting of all investment asset classes (including public and private fixed income securities, commercial mortgage loans, private equity funds, derivatives, joint ventures, US and offshore subsidiaries, etc) for Meiji Yasuda (MYL) and subsidiaries under US Statutory, International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), and Bermuda statutory accounting bases. Review or prepare static and ad hoc investment reports for a variety of audiences: the MYL and subsidiary Boards of Directors, governance bodies, regulators, auditors (external, state, and internal), rating agencies, and other internal customers.  Ensure maintenance of robust internal control practices and procedures and internal control reporting.

Responsibilities
  • Review or prepare and ensure accuracy of the investment settlement, accounting and reporting processes under both US statutory and IFRS bases of accounting.
  •  

  • Liaise with internal and external investment management to coordinate trade processing banking contacts. Coordinate external management reporting.
  •  

  • Assist in the performance of external audit and state financial examinations, and responding to ad hoc state regulator information requests.
  •  

  • Responsible for external investment reporting components of regulatory filings.
  •  

  • Review or prepare reports as requested by internal customers, such as Actuarial Valuation, Financial Planning & Analysis, or our MYL counterparts.
  •  

  • Clearwater implementation project and document new processes and procedures. Review or prepare all entities’ investment transaction Board materials and submit timely for distribution to Board members prior to Board meetings.
  •  

  • Review or prepare investment reporting sections of submissions to federal government agencies and rating agencies. Assist with rating agency survey data as they relate to investment reporting.
  •  

  • Prepare all filings associated with the management of subsidiaries created to handle surplus relief reinsurance and/or capital markets transactions (including captive reinsurance companies, SPV trusts, etc.).
  •  

  • Prepare reports associated with other than temporarily impaired securities and recommend approaches for quarterly assessment of OTTI adjustments.
  •  

  • Support surplus relief initiatives and underlying investment reporting. Prepare and coordinate communications required as a result of capital markets transactions, including those with financial guarantors, trustees, asset custodians, rating agencies, and investment managers. Ensure compliance with all contractual requirements associated with the surplus relief reinsurance transactions.

    Education

    BS in Accounting  

    CPA preferred

     

    Experience/Knowledge

    3-5 years progressive accounting experience

    Knowledge of Clearwater preferred

    Public Accounting experience (2-5 years preferred)

    Knowledge of US Statutory Accounting and/or IFRS Principles preferred

     

    What’s in it for you?

     

    The expected hiring compensation range for this position is $93,200 - $128,075 annually. This is a hybrid opportunity working in Frederick, MD.  

     

    The total compensation package for this position may include other elements, such as a sign-on bonus, long term incentives, and annual bonuses.  This role is eligible to participate in the Annual Incentive Plan. The current target payment for the position is 8% of base salary, modified for corporate and individual performance. Bonuses are pro-rated based on start date.  This role has 15 vacation days and 10 sick days that are accrued on a bi-weekly basis. Employees also have 9 paid holidays throughout the calendar year.
