The Position: We are seeking an experienced
Senior HMI Systems Architect to lead the technical architecture and long-term evolution of Human Machine Interface (HMI) software across our fleet of underground mining vehicles. In this new position as the senior individual contributor within the Interface Engineering team, you will define the architectural direction, technology roadmap, and engineering practices that enable scalable, modern, and highly reliable user interfaces for battery electric, diesel, and autonomous mining equipment.
This role requires close collaboration with multidisciplinary engineering teams, including software, systems, controls, automation, electrical, mechanical, and product management. You will provide technical leadership throughout the product lifecycle, ensuring that HMI solutions are intuitive, maintainable, reusable, and aligned with the company's long-term technology strategy.
The successful candidate combines deep technical expertise with strategic thinking and strong communication skills to influence engineering decisions, mentor technical teams, and drive innovation across multiple product lines.
General Responsibilities and Duties
- Define and maintain the long-term architecture for HMI software across multiple vehicle platforms
- Develop a technology roadmap that supports future product capabilities, scalability, maintainability, and reuse
- Establish architectural principles, design guidelines, coding standards, and best practices
- Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend adoption where they provide measurable value
- Serve as the technical authority for HMI architecture and software design decisions
- Provide technical mentorship to software developers and engineers through design reviews, coaching, and knowledge sharing
- Lead architectural reviews and participate in major technical decisions
Qualifications: The ideal candidate will possess strong technical and communication skills, leadership abilities, and problem-solving capabilities. They will demonstrate organizational skills, discipline, an aptitude for proactive learning, and a positive attitude. Additionally, they should meet the following qualifications:
- 10+ years of experience developing embedded, industrial software systems, or related field
- Minimum 10 years of experience with the job responsibilities and duties described above, mining or mobile vehicle specific experience is an asset
- 5+ years of experience designing software architecture for complex HMI
- Experience working within multidisciplinary engineering organizations
- Strong understanding of software architecture principles and design patterns
- Experience developing scalable software frameworks and reusable software components
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English; proficiency in other languages, primarily Spanish and French, is an asset
- Bachelor's degree or higher in engineering, computer science, UX Design or a related field
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng) license or similar certification an asset
