Full Job Description
Senior Hardware Systems Engineer

Department: Engineering

Employment Type: Full Time

Location: Oakville, Ontario HQ

Compensation: $105,000 - $140,000 / year

Description

You are an experienced, hands-on mechanical engineer who thrives on owning a subsystem end-to-end rather than checking off assigned tasks. You're comfortable being the technical interface with contract manufacturers, running root-cause investigations, and coordinating across Mechanical, Electrical, Optical, Firmware, Software, Manufacturing Engineering, Design Transfer, and Quality to get a product through verification and into manufacturing. You take full ownership and accountability for your subsystem's performance, manufacturability, reliability, and cost throughout its lifecycle, and you proactively flag risks before they become schedule problems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as the primary engineering interface with contract manufacturers building your assigned hardware modules
  • Resolve technical issues affecting production, assembly, calibration, and testing
  • Support manufacturing builds by investigating failures, coordinating corrective actions, and driving issues to closure
  • Own technical communication with suppliers during production and integration activities
  • Own the technical success of your assigned hardware subsystem, tracking performance from manufacturing through system integration and verification
  • Coordinate issue resolution across Mechanical, Electrical, Optical, Firmware, Software, Manufacturing Engineering, Design Transfer, and Quality
  • Drive root-cause investigations and corrective actions
  • Support integration of hardware modules into the complete instrument, investigating integration issues and coordinating multidisciplinary solutions
  • Support verification activities including V&V testing, design verification, manufacturing validation, and reliability testing
  • Ensure subsystem readiness for major development milestones
  • Identify and execute opportunities to improve cost (COGS), BOM optimization, reliability, manufacturability, serviceability, and assembly efficiency
  • Execute engineering change orders and design updates, owning continuous improvement of your subsystem throughout development
  • Develop and modify mechanical designs using CAD, producing engineering documentation and release packages
  • Support tolerance analysis, DFM/DFA, and prototype evaluations

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent experience
  • 5-10 years of product development experience
  • Strong CAD skills, SolidWorks preferred
  • Experience working directly with contract manufacturers
  • Experience supporting products through manufacturing builds
  • Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills
  • Comfortable coordinating across multiple engineering disciplines
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Experience in regulated industries, medical devices preferred

Compensation: $105,000 - $140,000 / year
