Job Description Summary

As a Senior Hardware Engineer for High Voltage Power Packs, the candidate will be the technical leader responsible for understanding and rolling out the global requirements and strategy to assist in the execution of high voltage power pack assemblies (400W up to over 7.2kW), high voltage power outlets, and 12V power outlets for the interior and exterior of the vehicle.   The candidate should possess creativity and initiative as well as a high level of independent judgement to support a growth commodity.


Job Description:

The Senior Hardware Engineer for High Voltage Power Packs is responsible for understanding and leading the roll-out of global requirements and strategy to assist the organization in execution.  With the growing demand for more power offerings to customers, this role will require collaboration and creativity with cross-functional teams to define and agree on a product roadmap and awareness of program packaging constraints.  Power outlets will range in high and low power applications (400W up to over 7.2kW) and include LIN devices.  Creativity and initiative are involved as well as a high level of independent judgment.  The candidate will support the organization as a technical leader for future and current technology, as well as support for global QRD activities. The individual will be responsible for supporting the strategy for component sharing and brand strategies – working with both the CCC team and component design studio.  As the Senior Hardware Engineer, the candidate will support the DREs within the organization to mentor and support the DREs through technical issues and be able to independently provide recommendations.

The candidate will also:

  • Engineer technical solutions for current and new programs related to power outlets
  • Creates global design guidelines and requirements for outlets
  • Collaborate with exterior design studio and cross-SMT partners for integration and strategy including high voltage power team and marketing .
  • Develop strategy and technical roadmap for high voltage power outlet offerings, while balancing complexity and program re-use.
  • Provide leadership and support to product development teams as an advocate for outlet technology integration with related suppliers
  • Approves SOR requirements and maintains the SOR technical documents
  • Maintains Global template system DFMEA’s
  • Supports global supplier technical assessments
  • Provides technical direction for advanced technology development (including ATW)
  • Assures that best practices and system requirements are followed
  • Supports component and vehicle level testing and/or development programs
  • Communicates, coordinates, and consults with global engineering departments and customers
  • Stays abreast of new technology and competitive products and rolls out technology to the DRE’s as needed
  • Supports warranty with problem solving and reporting
  • Mentor and assist others as the opportunities arise
  • Travel - as required

 

Required Qualifications & Experience:

  • Demonstrated technical and professional skills in high voltage and low voltage power systems. High-voltage power outlets, AC power outlets, power packs, or comparable power-electronics hardware
  • Basic software control knowledge for the LIN controlled device and sub-system requirements/mechanizations
  • DFMEA development and maintenance
  • Hardware testing, component validation, vehicle integration, and systems integration
  • Electric power distribution and vehicle electrical architecture
  • High level of oral and written communication skill – ability to lead and mentor others
  • High level analytical ability where problems are unusual and complex.
  • Understanding of development process from sourcing to execution
  • Experience managing suppliers in technical deliverables for hardware, testing and systems integration
  • Exhibits appropriate interpersonal styles and communication methods to work effectively with business partners to meet mutual goals.
  • DFSS Black Belt
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or equivalent
  • 5+ years of experience in job-related area

Preferred Qualifications

  • Design Release Engineering or equivalent hardware ownership experience
  • Experience with High Voltage or Electric power distribution in the vehicle and subsystem requirements
  • Direct automotive EV/electrification experience
  • Master’s Degree or other Advanced Degree
