Your Opportunity

Stantec's Geotechnical practice has an immediate opportunity for a Senior Geotechnical Engineer. As a geotechnical professional, you will provide comprehensive geotechnical services to Stantec clients with a focus on Project Leadership, Business Development, Staff Mentorship, and Collaboration with other Stantec Senior Leaders.

The role of a Senior Geotechnical Engineer is the "seller/doer" responsible for leading the pursuit and delivery teams on both small and large projects, while mentoring staff, providing technical guidance, and supporting business development efforts. You will leverage your technical skills, industry and market knowledge, and client and partner relationships to pursue and win work that transforms our business and inspires our people to provide a quality design product to our clients while building a culturally strong and high performing business.

Your Key Responsibilities
  • Maintaining and enhancing our reputation with clients, approval agencies, and industry professionals as an outstanding service provider.
  • Growing internal and external networks to enhance Stantec's reputation and identifying additional talent to join our team.
  • Assists Project Technical Leads and Project Managers in establishing project objectives, procedures, and performance standards, and leading multi-disciplinary teams on proposals, planning studies, feasibility through final designs, and construction services for geotechnical engineering projects.
  • Manage and lead other team members which could be local or regional, while working on other projects, complete tasks, and delegate specific project tasks to other team members as appropriate.
  • Conduct and/or review analyses, develop engineering calculation packages, and perform other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned and under the direction of a Project Technical Lead or Project Manager.
  • Providing mentoring and training for junior staff.
  • Developing client relationships to facilitate project activities.
  • Promoting collaboration and teamwork across business lines and geographies.
  • Serving as Engineer-of-Record on projects.
  • Leading project coordination meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants, owner and contractor, subcontractors, and vendors.
  • Engaging in professional organizations that align with expertise, authoring technical papers, and delivering technical presentations for conference and symposia events.
  • Assists in providing support services during construction that can include submittal reviews, responses to requests for information, and contract document clarifications.
  • Assist in the development of new standards and specifications for the work elements designed by your discipline group and interact with other Stantec teams to complete the design package for various sized projects across North America.

Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Ability to lead technical teams and collaborate in a project team setting and interact with clients daily.
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to understand project and team roles and scheduling, budgeting, and efficient use of time and resources.
  • Understanding client expectations, budgeting, proposal writing, and producing high-quality deliverables.
  • Strong understanding and technical ability in producing and leading teams through all phases of a design project (proposal, calculations, construction drawings, and final reports).
  • An understanding of state and federal regulations and the ability to adapt to client-specific requirements.
  • Efficient project management/technical leadership of assigned tasks on multiple concurrent projects.
  • The ability to check the work of others for accuracy and completeness and manage ,multiple direct team members.
  • Excellent team-building skills and a willingness to work on multiple teams/disciplines with varying backgrounds.
  • Strong knowledge of civil and geotechnical systems means and methods, materials, and industry standards.
  • Ability to interpret sketches, engineering drawings, and other similar materials.
  • Basic experience in Microsoft Office required, and familiarity with AutoCAD Civil3D, Geostudio Software Suite, Plaxis, ENSOFT LPILE, FB Deep/MultiPier, DigiPro II, and gINT, is a plus.
  • Provide support in permitting process of projects, if needed.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer registered in at least one U.S. jurisdiction with the ability to obtain reciprocity in other states.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience
  • Preferred USACE, DOT, and/or CCR experience

Position will involve roughly 10 to 20% travel for client site visits, project meetings, etc. Flexible office and field arrangements depending on project activities. A typical office environment working with computers and working at a desk for long periods. Fieldwork may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
