Where You Will Work

Our Miami smelter and rod plant is nestled just 90 miles east of Phoenix. The smelter processes copper concentrate primarily from our company's Arizona copper mines and is the most significant source of sulfuric acid for our North American leaching operations. What You Will Do

  • Provides geomechanical project oversight and review relating to outside consultants, pit slope water control, structural geology, design slope angles and interfacing with mine design and planning.
  • Reviews slope stability data collection, analysis and remedial work including slope monitoring data processing, rock strength parameters, geologic structures, slope control blast designs, and slope angle reviews.
  • Communicate accurate, timely and relevant slope stability and geomechanical information to mine and site personnel.
  • Conduct and communicate the results of inspections of pit walls, stockpiles, and site access roads.
  • Proactively seek improvements to the safe mining of mine reserves relating to slope monitoring, slope maintenance, slope and catch bench designs, blasting, geomechanical data acquisition and analyses.
  • Assists with the development, maintenance and implementations of strategic plans to enhance the mine's slope stability program.
  • May represent the site on company sponsored steering teams related to geomechanical or mine slope stability efforts.
  • Overall property slope management functions for pit slopes, and stockpiles.

  • Manage, conduct and communicate the results of inspections of pit walls, stockpiles and site access roads.
  • Develop, maintain and implement strategic plans to enhance the mine's slope stability program.
  • Usage of appropriate software (MS Office, AutoCAD) and Geotechnical data analysis, Mintec's MineSight (or equivalent)
  • Perform other duties as required.


What You Bring To Freeport

  • Bachelor's degree in Mine Engineering, Geological Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or related Engineering discipline and five (5) years of Engineering experience in hard rock mining relating to rock mechanics and rock slope stability, OR
  • Master's degree in Mine Engineering, Geological Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or related Engineering discipline and three (3) years of Engineering experience in hard rock mining relating to rock mechanics and rock slope stability
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of Engineering
  • Able to research and analyze information of considerable difficulty and draw valid conclusions
  • Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions
  • Skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing


Preferred Qualifications

  • M.S. Degree in Mining, Geological, or Geotechnical Engineering with a minimum 7 years of experience in hard rock mining relating to rock mechanics and rock slope stability.
  • Experience in managing a hard-rock mine geomechanical program
