The Senior Financial Planning Analyst supports planning, forecasting, and performance monitoring across assigned Child Care regions to identify growth opportunities, risks and drive continuous process improvement. The role analyzes operating capacity, registration, staffing, and expenses to produce reliable outlooks and identify issues requiring follow-up, in keeping with government funding agreements.
The Senior Financial Planning Analyst will build effective, collaborative relationships and work with Childcare Leadership and the Finance Team to support budget objectives, funding requirements, data accuracy and drive practical improvements in operational processes and reporting.
In this role, you will:- Partner with Child Care Leadership to provide the tools, data and insights that support informed decision-making, continuous improvement and the identification of growth opportunities and risks.
- Conduct detailed operating and license capacity analysis for monthly forecasts, highlighting and resolving discrepancies that may affect projections and require adjustment.
- Review registration and enrolment trends to evaluate alignment with operating capacity and support the annual Canada-Wide Early Learning and Child Care (CWELCC) application process.
- Forecast staffing requirements in relation to operating capacity and collaborate with General Managers to address required adjustments.
- Forecast operating expenses for assigned regions.
- Perform variance analyses to support planning and performance discussions in collaboration with Child Care Leadership.
- Work with Child Care Leadership to identify opportunities to improve financial performance and support achievement of budget objectives.
- Support government funding requirements relating to operations, including regional reviews, audits, and monitoring activities.
- Collaborate with the Child and Family Development Reconciliation Team to reconcile registration system information with financial information related to municipal child care fee subsidy for accuracy.
- Suggest improvements to forecasting methodologies and support the development of monitoring tools and dashboards.
- Support the improvement of registration and subsidy processes and support operational improvement initiatives and special projects within Child Care Operations.
- Perform other duties as assigned
You bring:- Post-secondary education in finance, accounting, business, data analytics or related field, or equivalent experience.
- Professional designation such as CA, CMA, CGA, or enrolled in an advanced stage of completing the program or equivalent work experience is an asset
- Three years of experience supporting forecasting, budgeting, financial analysis, performance monitoring, or related planning activities.
- Knowledge of Child Care and Early Years Act and/or Canada Wide Early Learning Child Care (CWELCC) agreement an asset
- Must possess strong computer skills (Advanced Excel, Word, computerized accounting package)
- Strong analytical skills and attention to details
- Well-developed interpersonal, and relationship building skills; ability to establish rapport and excellent communication with members, staff, and volunteers
- Excellent written, oral communication and problem-solving skills
- Excellent understanding of diversity, inclusion and equity including the ability to identify and address barriers, work effectively with diverse stakeholders, and integrate equity into program design
