Bring your accounting expertise to a role where financial insight, operational partnership, and process improvement directly support the mission of UVA Health. This opportunity is ideal for an experienced financial professional who enjoys investigating complex transactions, strengthening financial processes, and helping leaders make informed decisions.

The Senior Financial Analyst provides financial reporting and operational support within the Controller's Office. Y ou will apply your accounting knowledge, analytical judgment, and systems expertise to resolve financial questions, support accurate reporting, and respond effectively as organizational priorities evolve.

The Role

As a Senior Financial Analyst, you will serve as a versatile financial resource across accounts payable, fixed assets, and operational activities . You will receive broad project direction, determine the appropriate path forward, investigate inconsistencies, and connect transaction-level details to the larger financial picture.

This is a dynamic role within a growing team that supports both essential financial operations and opportunities for meaningful process improvement. Your work will include:

  • Supporting month-end close activities and helping ensure timely , accurate financial reporting.


  • Preparing accounts payable and other balance sheet reconciliations.


  • Preparing and monitoring accounts payable aging schedules.


  • Researching invoices, transactions, fixed assets, and departmental inquiries using PeopleSoft and other financial systems.


  • Identifying discrepancies, determining root causes, and developing practical solutions to complex accounting questions.


  • Partnering with colleagues across the Controller's Office, Procurement, Budget, and Health System departments.


  • Managing projects or financial processes with a high degree of independence and professional judgment .


  • Contributing ideas that improve reporting, strengthen controls, and enhance existing workflows.


  • Adapting to changing responsibilities as the team responds to evolving operational and organizational needs.


An average day may involve completing a reconciliation , researching transactions, preparing journal entries, and supporting close activities . Success requires someone who is comfortable moving between detailed accounting work, systems research, and broader financial analysis.

The strongest candidates will bring substantial accounting, finance, or audit experience , including exposure to accounts payable and financial reconciliations. Advanced Excel skills, strong pattern recognition, sound research and problem-solving capabilities, attention to detail , and the ability to work productively from broad direction will be essential. Experience in healthcare or higher education, along with familiarity with PeopleSoft can provide additional value.

This position is designed to support a remote work arrangement, with the potential for occasional on-site attendance in Charlottesville based on operational needs. Work arrangements are subject to UVA policies and may evolve over time.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education: Bachelor's Degree in required.

Experience: 5+ years relevant professional experience.

Licensure: None, unless otherwise specified in job posting.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.

The pay range for this role is $62,691.00 - $125,382.00 annually. Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate's qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education.
