Full Job Description
MITRE's Finance organization is seeking a Senior Financial Analyst to join the MITRE Technology & Engineering (MTE) Finance team. As a Senior Financial Analyst (FA), you will serve as a primary source of day-to-day financial management and business decision support, playing a key part in the business operations functions that maximize MITRE's value to our government sponsors. The FA will work in close coordination with and report directly to the Finance Manager who serves as the line level-CFO for MTE's Vice President.

Roles & Responsibilities:

Stakeholder Engagement
  • Fiduciary perspective to prioritize good financial outcomes for the customer and for MITRE as a whole
    • If necessary, educate or even push against the customer to drive better financial outcomes, while maintaining a positive relationship with key stakeholders
    • Ensure strong operating financial controls and adherence to MITRE Finance policies
  • Ensure customer is actively engaged in understanding the current landscape and business context, including trends and emerging issues within the work program.
  • Primary customer is MTE Division Directors. Regular engagements with each director are expected at least monthly; engagement with other stakeholders outside of Finance, such as Department Managers, Operations, Talent Acquisition, Human Resources, Legal, etc., as needed.
  • Actively engage in Finance Mission Teams, Managing Center Reviews, and/or cross-Finance reviews, representing the MTE perspective to other stakeholders and bringing back other perspectives to MTE stakeholders.

Business Cycle Support
  • Continuous Forecasting & Quarterly Target-setting
    • Indirect rate management: work with customers to realign funding if business context changes or if indirect spending is out of alignment with plan, creating risk to MITRE's bill rates and/or wrap rate
    • Indirect budget allocations based on enterprise and local-level strategic priorities, working in close coordination with operations teams
    • Help customers understand the demand signal and context that is being received from the business organizations, and ensure they have realistic and accurate forecasts, particularly regarding hiring and capacity planning
    • Oversee the creation of financial models to enable forecasting & target-setting planning, discussions, and preservation for future reference
  • Monthly business cycle
    • Create and deliver a monthly management report that analyzes and diagnoses business drivers and variances, focusing on recommendations for leadership action.
    • Lead Director customer through the "OODA loop" each month: observing business metrics and demand outlook, orienting based on the current capacity picture, deciding what actions to take by aligning demand, capacity, and indirects, and finally, recommended actions, informed by active plan data
  • Proactively engage across Finance, escalating challenges and opportunities that may have broader financial impacts.
  • While the primary support area is demand-capacity alignment focused on FFRDC Sponsor Delivery, this role will support other finance needs of their Directors as needed (e.g., business case development, monthly reporting and forecasting for non-FFRDC P&Ls).

Strategic Business & Finance Support
  • Lead and/or execute ad hoc or strategic analyses, as requested by stakeholders
  • Finance tool, process, and operational improvements
  • Represent MTE perspective to the teams that own Finance's tools and systems, working with them to make updates or changes, as necessary
