Primary Job Responsibilities:

To provide support to the company in the area of financial reporting and analysis, budgeting and forecasting, and all related areas. This position delivers insight that guides financial evaluation, maintains the general ledger and other critical financial records and provides insight to leadership across the organization to improve financial performance.
  • Creates monthly management reporting package with financial statements and supporting documentation and analysis. Prepares necessary documents for Board of Director and Finance Committee meetings and reporting to external partners.
  • Prepares monthly, quarterly, and annual journal entries and reconciliations as part of the financial close process.
  • Works with CFO on development of the annual budget and ongoing forecasts for departments.
  • Utilizes financial reporting systems for financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting.
  • Utilizing system reports, analyzes, interprets, and communicates operating expense variances to management. Partners with department managers to contain costs and forecast expenses.
  • Compiles and supplies information to the tax department or external tax preparers for tax and regulatory reporting filings. Also prepares and/or provides information for various industry-related financial surveys (e.g., Delta Dental Plans Association).
  • Provides financial analysis and feedback to management for its evaluation of organizational performance and decision making.
  • Working with sales operations, sales and account management leadership and payroll, coordinates the sales incentive payment process to include preparing the reports and computations necessary for sales incentive payments.
  • Assists with the coordination, preparation, and submission of support documents for the annual independent audit, and responds to questions as necessary, as well as any other external financial audit that may arise (e.g., Department of Insurance)
  • Reviews large invoices, credit card reconciliations and other payment vouchers as necessary ensuring accuracy and investigating variances prior to payment.
  • Serves as a liaison between departments regarding accounting policies and procedures.
  • Responsibilities listed herein are performed for Delta Dental of North Carolina, the Delta Dental Foundation of North Carolina, and reports and analysis requested by the company's sole corporate member, Renaissance Health Services Corporation, for that organizations consolidated reporting.
  • Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or related field
  • Minimum of five years of experience with financial reporting and analysis
  • Statutory accounting experience preferred
  • A certified public accountant (CPA) designation is preferred
  • Will accept any suitable combination of education, training or experience


Other Skills/Abilities:
  • Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Excel, Outlook, Word and PowerPoint
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Experience in insurance, healthcare or regulated industries preferred
  • Experience with budgeting, forecasting and financial reporting
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing with internal and external contacts as well as mid to senior level management
  • Ability to use independent judgement and to resolve complex problems
