Position: Senior Financial Accountant

Location: Calgary; Alberta

Employment Type: Full-Time Permanent

Reports to: Controller

Role Overview

The Senior Accountant plays a critical role in supporting the integrity, accuracy, and sustainability of Enfinite's financial reporting and accounting processes. Reporting to the Controller, this position is responsible for leading key aspects of financial reporting, month-end close, account reconciliations, finance systems administration, and technical accounting.

The Senior Accountant serves as a trusted business partner across the organization and provides leadership in maintaining strong financial controls, improving finance processes, and supporting the continued growth of the Company. This role is expected to operate with a high degree of independence and act as a key resource and backup to the Controller.

Core Responsibilities
  • Financial Reporting & Analysis
    • Lead preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting packages.
    • Prepare management reporting packages for Executive Leadership and the Board.
    • Perform detailed variance analysis against budget, forecast, and prior periods.
    • Analyze financial results and provide meaningful business insights.
    • Support budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow reporting processes.
    • Develop and maintain financial reporting tools and dashboards.
  • Month-End Close & Financial Controls
    • Own key components of the monthly close process.
    • Prepare and review journal entries, accruals, and accounting adjustments.
    • Perform detailed balance sheet reviews and investigate unusual account activity.
    • Lead preparation and review of account reconciliations.
    • Ensure compliance with internal controls and accounting policies.
    • Support external audit activities and preparation of working papers.
  • Finance Systems Administration
    • Administer Dynamics 365 Business Central finance functionality.
    • Maintain finance user access and security roles.
    • Administer workflow approvals and financial controls.
    • Support segregation of duties monitoring and remediation.
    • Coordinate testing and implementation of system enhancements.
    • Maintain finance process documentation and user procedures.
  • Technical Accounting
    • Administer IFRS 16 lease accounting
    • Support Asset Retirement Obligation (ARO) accounting and reporting
    • Maintain fixed asset accounting and capitalization processes.
    • Assist with accounting policy development and implementation.
    • Prepare technical accounting analysis and supporting documentation.
  • Process Improvement & Leadership
    • Identify and implement opportunities to improve accounting processes and controls.
    • Support finance transformation initiatives and system optimization projects.
    • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior accounting staff.
    • Collaborate with Operations, Projects, and Commercial teams.
    • Act as backup to the Controller during absences and peak periods.
    • Support development of scalable finance processes to support future organizational growth.

Qualifications and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • CPA or an equivalent professional designation.
  • 5-8 years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of accounting principles (IFRS).
  • Advanced in Microsoft Excel and accounting systems.
  • Experience preparing financial statements and management reporting packages.
  • Experience working with ERP systems.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with business intelligence tools (e.g., Power BI) is preferred.
  • Experience in power generation, energy, utilities, infrastructure or asset-intensive industries is considered an asset.
  • Experience with lease accounting, fixed assets, and asset retirement obligations is considered an asset.
  • Experience with workflow, controls, and finance system administration is considered an asset.
