Position: Senior Field Service Engineer
Location Option A: San Ramon, California (Corporate/On-Site)
Location Option B: Massachusetts or Surrounding Area (Remote)

Salary: $100,000 - $130,000 annually, adjusted based on candidate's skills, experience, and geographic location. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the base range for this role.

The Senior Field Service Engineer plays a critical role in delivering advanced technical support and strategic customer engagement across pre-sales and post-sales activities. This position leads complex installations, diagnostics, and service operations while mentoring junior engineers and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives. The ideal candidate brings deep technical expertise, strong customer-facing experience, and the ability to drive operational excellence in a dynamic, high-growth environment. This role also collaborates cross-functionally with the Research and Development (R&D) team to relay field insights and influence product innovation.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, life sciences, or a related technical field; advanced certifications or graduate coursework preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in field service engineering, preferably in life sciences, biomedical, or instrumentation industries.
  • Proven expertise in troubleshooting, repairing, and calibrating complex technical systems and instruments.
  • Strong proficiency in Windows OS, networking, electronics, mechanical systems, and chemistry-related technologies.
  • Demonstrated leadership in customer-facing roles, with the ability to manage escalations and mentor junior staff.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, remote environment and adapt to evolving priorities.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Willingness to travel domestically 20%-40% overnight; ability to drive up to 4-5 hours and travel by air as needed.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in engineering, life sciences, or a related technical discipline
  • 7+ years of field service experience in precision instrumentation or life science technologies
  • Prior experience supporting R&D teams or contributing to product development cycles
  • Familiarity with ISO standards, GMP compliance, and regulated environments
  • Experience with CRM platforms (e.g., HubSpot)
  • Strong project management skills and ability to lead cross-functional initiatives
  • Certifications in electronics, mechanical systems, or technical training programs (e.g., IPC, Six Sigma, Lean)
