Position Summary:The EPC Senior Estimator is responsible for developing accurate and competitive cost estimates for Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) projects involving medium- and high-voltage electrical infrastructure. Depending on experience, this individual may lead estimate development independently or work collaboratively with senior estimators on larger or more complex pursuits.
This role supports business growth by preparing estimates for substations, transmission, distribution, renewable energy, battery energy storage (BESS), industrial, and other electrical infrastructure projects. The Estimator partners closely with engineering, procurement, operations, and business development teams to evaluate project requirements, identify risks, and develop competitive proposals.
This position is primarily office-based in Houston with occasional travel to project sites, client meetings, and pre-bid events (typically less than 10%).
Summary of Key Responsibilities:- Develop EPC cost estimates for medium- and high-voltage electrical infrastructure projects.
- Prepare quantity takeoffs and develop labor, material, equipment, subcontractor, and indirect cost estimates.
- Analyze drawings, specifications, contracts, and bid documents to determine project scope.
- Identify scope gaps, constructability concerns, project risks, and pricing opportunities.
- Collaborate with engineering, procurement, operations, and business development throughout the estimating process.
- Participate in estimate reviews and bid strategy discussions.
- Support project handoff activities following award.
- Maintain estimating documentation in accordance with company standards.
- Depending on experience, provide technical guidance and mentorship to less experienced estimators.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Experience & Education Required:- Approximately 4+ years of experience in estimating, project engineering, project management, construction management, field operations, preconstruction, or related roles supporting electrical infrastructure projects.
- Experience developing or supporting construction cost estimates for EPC, utility, industrial, commercial, or heavy civil projects.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, contracts, and bid documents.
- Experience preparing quantity takeoffs and estimating labor, equipment, materials, and subcontracted work.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a collaborative environment.
- Equivalent combinations of education, training, and relevant experience will be considered.
Candidates with more extensive estimating experience may be considered for a Senior Estimator level role.Preferred Skills:- Experience estimating medium- and high-voltage substations, transmission, and distribution projects.
- Experience estimating both civil and electrical construction scopes.
- Experience supporting utility, renewable energy, battery energy storage system (BESS), industrial, or power delivery projects.
- Experience working for an EPC contractor or self-performing electrical contractor.
- Experience mentoring or developing junior estimators.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field preferred.
- Experience with Bluebeam or similar digital takeoff and document management software.
- Knowledge of conceptual estimating, design-build pursuits, and alternative project delivery methods.
