Position OverviewRoebbelen Contracting is seeking an experienced Senior Estimator to join our Preconstruction team in El Dorado Hills.
The Senior Estimator is responsible for developing accurate, comprehensive estimates throughout the conceptual, design, preconstruction, procurement, and construction phases. This position works closely with clients, design professionals, trade partners, and internal project teams to develop intelligent cost solutions for public and private construction projects.
The ideal candidate has extensive commercial construction estimating experience, strong knowledge of Northern California market conditions, and experience with negotiated education, healthcare, and public works projects.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Develop and complete estimates during the conceptual, design, preconstruction, procurement, and construction phases
- Review drawings, specifications, schematics, contracts, RFPs, RFQs, and other construction documents
- Prepare detailed estimates supporting the pursuit and acquisition of new work
- Perform quantity takeoffs and develop pricing for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontracted work
- Apply current market pricing, regional cost data, labor analysis, and project-specific conditions
- Solicit, review, analyze, and level subcontractor and supplier proposals
- Identify scope gaps, risks, cost-saving opportunities, and value-engineering alternatives
- Maintain current knowledge of construction materials, means, methods, pricing, and market trends
- Participate in preconstruction, estimating, project, and client meetings
- Document and track estimate assumptions, qualifications, exclusions, and outstanding information
- Collaborate with operations teams to support project turnover and ensure alignment between the estimate and execution plan
- Support business development efforts, including pursuits, proposals, submittals, interviews, and cost-related narratives
- Build and maintain productive relationships with clients, design partners, subcontractors, and suppliers
- Support and provide guidance to other members of the estimating and preconstruction team as needed
Minimum Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in construction management, Architecture, Engineering, or a related field with at least eight years of construction estimating experience, or at least 10 years of relevant estimating experience without a degree
- Experience estimating commercial construction projects valued at $10 million or more
- Previous estimating experience with negotiated education, healthcare, and public works projects
- Knowledge of Design-Build and Design-Bid-Build delivery methods
- Demonstrated ability to identify cost-saving and value-engineering opportunities
- Strong understanding of construction materials, means, methods, sequencing, and market conditions
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Bluebeam, and On-Screen Takeoff
- Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple estimates, deadlines, and competing priorities
- Ability to work collaboratively with clients, design professionals, trade partners, and internal teams
Preferred Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in construction management, Architecture, Engineering, or a related field with at least 10 years of estimating experience
- Experience estimating projects valued at $10 million or more
- Experience with prefabrication methods in design and fieldwork
- Proficiency with Procore and Timberline
- Experience developing proposal narratives and supporting project interviews
- Previous experience mentoring or guiding estimators and preconstruction team members
Work EnvironmentDuties are primarily performed in an office setting and may require extended periods of sitting and computer use. Occasional visits to active construction sites may be required. Appropriate personal protective equipment must be worn while visiting jobsites.
