Job Title: Senior Estimator - Civil, Landscaping & Environmental Works
Location: Calgary, Alberta, Canada

Role:

The Senior Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and comprehensive cost estimates for small and large-scale residential and municipal projects. This role requires expertise in evaluating bid specifications, performing take-offs, and collaborating with project managers, engineers, and procurement teams to ensure competitive and profitable bids. The Senior Estimator will play a critical role in the preconstruction phase, providing key insights into project costs, risks, and opportunities.

Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for all estimating services, tender submissions, and proposals including preparation and assembly of all required information and documentation. Draw on other resources as required and as appropriate.
  • Review project documents thoroughly to analyze scope, technical requirements, and subcontractor needs.
  • Assemble accurate, timely, and well-organized estimates, including lump sum, unit rate, and design-build pursuits.
  • Attend pre-tender meetings and site visits to clarity scope of work and identify any problems or conditions of an unusual nature that may be present.
  • Lead or participate in bid closings, ensuring all submissions are accurate, timely, and competitive.
  • Support post-tender activities, including clarifications, submissions, and negotiations.
  • Interface with owners on bid development inquiries and estimate clarifications requests.
  • Execute bid forms including the submission of all security, bonding, and insurance requirements.
  • Summarize quantities; prepare spreadsheets for alternate and separate prices as required for tenders.
  • Review, analyze and check for completeness of proposal documents.
  • Prepare post-bid analysis and tender results summaries.
  • Maintain and continuously update databases of labor rates, material pricing, and project cost and production histories.
  • Stay abreast of trends and developments, such as new equipment, methods and procedures that are developing in the industry.
  • Identify new project leads through relationships with clients, consultants, and subcontractors.
  • Leverage deep understanding of the Calgary construction market to secure strategic opportunities.
  • Mentor and training junior staff members.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Skills & Education:
  • Undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related discipline.
  • 5-7 years of experience with civil, infrastructure, and reclamation projects considered a strong asset.
  • Proficiency with Word, Excel, and Bluebeam Revu.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, plans, and specifications.
  • Collaborative team player with a positive, professional attitude.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal).
  • A valid Class 5 license is required.

This is a permanent full-time position based out of the Calgary office.

Expected Compensation Range: $95,000 - $115,000.
